    Hi I'm Andre Proulx

And everything has to be all about me... I could have left the game end with the storybook ending it was making out to be, ya know.. A retiring Fleming kicking the game winning fieldgoal from 47yards out at his last home game keeping the playoffs hopes for Edmonton alive...

    but..

I learned alot from my good buddy Mic McGough. Make everything to be about you, be the star. Steal the thunder if you must. So i took his good advice and made myself the star of the game. I couldn't let Fleming steal my thunder. Its all about me. I have to put on a show, the fans come to see me. I couldn't dissapoint them. I am the star.

The officials did make some bad calls, I will say that. And yeah, it does hurt the game. But we should be used to crappy officiating by now.
But WE(The Eskimos)blew a lead TWICE in the game. The officials can only hurt some teams so much. I'm just as mad as them as I am at the refs. How does any team do that TWICE in a game...and LATE in a game too.

Some people can be mad at the refs for that game. I'm mad at the Eskimos for letting leads like that go.

        Finale ruined

Storybook finish to Fleming's career marred by holding call
        By JONATHAN HUNTINGTON, SUN MEDIA

        Disbelief.

        Intense anger.

        Sadness.

All of those words describe the feeling amongst the Edmonton Eskimos after the head official Andre Proulx called a holding penalty on what would have been a perfect ending to Sean Fleming's career at Commonwealth Stadium.

Proulx called Mike Maurer for holding just a split-second before Fleming's kick split the uprights. If the field goal had counted, Edmonton would have had a 32-29 lead with two seconds remaining.

Instead, the Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the Esks 36-29 in overtime.

"I have seen that (holding) call once in my career," said Fleming, who will retire at the end of this season after 16 years with the Esks.

"I haven't seen the replay, but what I have heard there was no hold on it.

"I said to the ref after I found out: 'How can you call that? (It's) my last home game, how can you call a penalty like that?'

"There is holding all the time on field goals but to call it like that. "What a time to do it? "It baffles me.

"I am going to look at the replay and see what it says. If it is not a blatant hold where the guy takes him down, then (Proulx) should be embarrassed."

Maurer wasn't available for comment after the game.

But Fleming doesn't believe the alleged hold had any bearing on the play.

In response to Fleming's appeal for reasoning, Proulx didn't say much to the kicker.

"He kept saying: 'Sean, Sean, Sean,' " recalled Fleming.

The Esks final drive of regulation play seemed to have all the makings of being a Cinderella story. With 24 seconds left on the clock and the ball on the Edmonton 46-yard line, Fleming knew what had to happen.

"I told Danny ... to even have a legitimate chance, we got to get the ball to the 40-yard line," remembered Fleming. "We got there and that was as pure of a kick I have hit. I don't know if the stars were aligned or what.

"I hit it and looked up and I knew it was going to make it.

        "To me it counted.

"I know my teammates believe the same thing. If that is my last kick as an Eskimo, I am proud. I made it when the game is on the line.

"That is what I am known for - making the big kicks.

"I am disappointed we couldn't get the win because of whatever that call was.

"Everything about that kick and the call on it, it had so many ramifications for me personally and the team.

"I am very disappointed it was called at this time."

          Accepting crappy officials is unacceptable.

Gotta say I'm disappointed. I expected to open this thread and see and picture of a blind man with a white cane.

I'm so pissed....I don't even care the season is over. I just feel terrible for Sean. What a way to go out and cap your career at home. Its just friggin unacceptable what happened.

K guys keep an open mind as you read this and don't hit that negative button too many times. IF there was a holding penalty on the play and I'm not sure there was cause I wasn't there on the field, should the ref ignore just because it was a kickers last kick at home and because it would have kept that same teams playoff hopes alive OR should he call it because it was indeed a penalty?

I suggest you look at the replay and then ask that question.

To be honest I don't know the answer to that. My point was if there was a penalty should it be called or should the refs make exceptions??

To be honest, I thought it was a pretty blatant hold. I'm an absolutely massive Fleming fan but the idea that the refs should "bend" the rules because it's his last home game seems a wee bit silly to me. Mauer's man beat him off the rush and it actually looked like he had a chance to get a hand on the ball if it wasn't for Mauer's hold.
