    If you're Jason Maas....

and all you read about is every step Ricky Ray takes how excited are you about coming back to this team???

Yes Ricky Ray won a Grey Cup WITH us(NOT FOR US) but by no means did Maas do such a bad job last year that he deserves to hand HIS starting job over to Ricky Ray on a silver platter.

For as far as I'm concerned the job is Maas' to lose and IF he does lose it to Ray then the Esks should trade somewhere he could contend for starter (Ham or the Peg come mind)

I'm not bashing Ray but if I'm Jason Maas reading all this what about Ricky threads I feel pretty dissed.

Jason Maas, know that you have at least one fan who feels you should get that chance to lead back to the Grey Cup.

As a football team your always trying to get better, as good as Maas is, Ray is better, and especially in such a crucial position in football, anything that increased your talent can mean the difference between grey cup or bust.

Stats indicate there are no significant differences between RR and Jason Maas.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but RR was surrounded with a better team.

Evil Dr. EE knows exactly what he's talking about.

not being a esks fan, i would MUCH rather play against maas than ray, numbers mean nothing, Ray found ways to win.

In a very recent Edmonton Journal article, contrary to what may have been previously reported, Maas suggests that he'll not be asking for a trade if Ray comes back and will go into camp the strongest he's ever been having gotten this shoulder cartilage issue taken care of.

He seems to be taking the right approach in that he says he'll go to camp prepared to compete hard and make the coaches' decision a tough one. That would seem to be the better way to go rather than admit defeat and ask to be moved.

It's not that simple. Would Ray have found ways to win behind this year's O-Line or with this year's Mike Pringle?

            We don't know.

I can't wait to see what Jason will do with a better supporting cast (I hope) and after a full year's playing time. Throw in a healthy shoulder and who knows what may happen...

Personally if I was Maas I'd be inclined to ask to be cut or dealt if I don't win the job... and then go out and give your best and see what happens...

I think Maas should get more respect than he does. But at the same time, Ricky Ray has won a ring. If Ray comes back, its a no-brainer...he's very young, talented, and has a great future. Maas then becomes expendable...if this does happen, Id like to see Maas go to Hamilton.

I'd love to see to Ricky Ray come back, but he should have to earn his place on the team(which I'm sure would happen if it ever came to that). I'll admit I wasn't much of a Maas fan but it didn't take long to win me over especially hearing some of the half wits where I sit thinking they know a thing or two about football (and I'm not saying I'm any better at times, I'm still getting the hang of things) and sitting there all game and do nothing but bring Maas down, Maas just kind of grows on ya and he earned it. I think stats wise he had a great season and he earned his position and should be given a fair chance to keep it and I hope he goes into training camp next May and gives it all he's got especially if Ricky comes back. If Maas doesn't get the starter position then the esks should release him or trade so he can go to another team and keep on top of his game.

...but Ray also played behind a far better O-line. The few nights the O-line showed up this year Maas tore the opposing D to shreds.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

My Spidey-sense tells me that this will all be much ado about nothing. Raicky Ray will still be in the NFL next year methinks.

IMO, the characteristic that sets Ray apart from Maas (and from most other QB's) is composure.

Ray has an ability to remain composed under pressure and in crucial moments that makes him near unique IMO. Like Doug Flutie, Ray has an incredibly high panic threshold.

This is not a knock against Mass. I think he is a fine QB who, health permitting, will have a long and successful CFL career. IMO, Maas is a winner.

                            Ricky Ray is special though.

I hope the Eskimos share your view Sandy. Then there will be no need for the Esks to shell out 400K for Ray and he will end up out east. As a CFL fan, I want Ray back in the league. As a 'rider fan, I prefer him in Toronto or Hamilton over Edmonton.

                              I agree with you totally.

But just to play devil's advocate... (for all, not just you jcr!)...
For the Esks it would be better going into camp with JM and RR... strongest one gets #1 job; if you can hang on to the other, great, if not... a trade - most likely to the East.
For Either RR or JM it would be better going into camp with the team you are pretty dang certainly you will be starting for. Better to get to know systems, personnel, etc. as soon as possible rather than playing catch up.

There are, however, a couple of spots that might be interested in either RR JM should one become available after TC... Hamilton or Toronto. Come to a team with a long in the tooth vet... learn under him... slowly take the reins.

As for Mr. Maas... I too am in his corner. Dickenson and Burris have come back from the NFL and haven't exactly returned to their ways of old!
