Final Grade for Players & Coaches:
2. Omarr Morgan B- Was burned early then injured. Had a few games where he settled down and made plays but overal I was largely disappointed by his play, especially considering his price tag. I could see him a cap casualty next year.
3. Warren Kean No Grade. Spent the entire season on the IR/R list. Kicked reasonably well in the final game but if the word is true about the Esks now looking for a punter to go along with Kean, then it would be a terrible waste of a draft pick when we badly needed help in other areas.
4. JF Romeo C+ Saw some game action this year, mostly special teams, and special teams stunk to high heaven this year.
5. Goldie McLendon F Great guy, great teammate, solid citizen, just not good enough at this level playing on grass. He will explore other options next year.
6. Pat Woodcock F Walking band-aid since he's been here. His money could/should be better spent elsewhere.
7. Steven Jyles B In limited game action he moved the offence fairly well, although he made mistakes in reading defences but it's all part of the learning curve. Definitely the better athelete between he and LeFors, with a much stronger arm. I would hope he's back next year.
8. Kamau Peterson A First career 1000 yd season, played hurt, showed leadership, and made many a tough catch. definitely proved me and others wrong when we questioned his initial signing. Hope he keeps on provong us wrong because we will gladly accept that.
9. Lenny Williams B Would have loved to see what he could have turned into this year had he not gone down with the knee injury. Still he was a bright spot on defence and should look to solidify a spot on the corner next year. Looks to be a keeper find.
10. Stanford Samuels C+ banged up most of the year. Goes to make the big hit/play but get's burned too often, and needs to work on becoming a better tackler.
11. Sean Fleming B+ for the season, A+ for the career.
12. Jason Goss A Started slow like the rest of the secondary, but emerged as the real playmaker in the backfield.
14. Tony Tompkins F Developed Winstonitis and never recovered.
15. Ricky Ray B Voted by the team as their most outstanding player but one has to look at how he has not won games with this offence the past two seasons and he must shoulder some of the blame for that as the guy pulling the trigger. Let's hope he's 100% for camp next year.
16. Brett Elliott No Grade. Remains to be seen if he is in camp next year.
17. Stefan LeFors B- Showed some good things in the last 6 games of the season. Would like to see him use his feet more and attack the edge of the LOS better. Should improve for next year as this playing time will go a long way in his development and with the confidence of his fellow teammates.
18. William Loftus B Took over the starting safety spot and delivered some huge hits over the middle. A special teamer as well but anyone who was on teams this year get's knocked down a grade or two.
19. Mike Maurer B- ST guy who was solid enough but with the injury to Bertrand, Maurer didn't play a role in the offence.
22. Mike Bradley C+ Another ST guy who had no role in the offence. Pure ST'er who get's the poor ST grade.
23. Shannon Garrett A Found Malcolm Frank's water bottle from the fountain of youth and had a solid campaign, showing versitility, leadership, and played at a high level when early on, many on the defence did not.
24. Chris Thompson C Labour Day baptism by fire, didn't blow anyone's doors off in the action he saw in the second half of the year.
25. Jonte' Buhl No Grade. Looked very shaky early in the year prior to getting hurt. Next year will be make or break.
27. Tyler Ebell B+ Came close to getting an A mark if not for the injuries. This kid has natural ability, great lateral movement and can make guys miss in a phone booth. I hope the Esks didn't piss him off at the end of the year so he comes back.
28. Calvin McCarty B Poor ST play early in the year ( missed block = blocked punt) took him off the protector spot on punts. Had a few nice plays late in the season and could develop into a good depth player. Could make Mike Bradley expendable next year?
29. Siddeeq Shabazz A I remember laughing with Jed at Mini-camp that this kid should make the squad because of the great handle. He beat out a lot of the trumped up competition and had a great rookie campaign. Still needs to work on his coverage ability, but has a nose for the ball, makes plays and plays with a bit of the Mobley-esq fire that we've all grown so accustomed to seeing in the WIL backer spot. Look forward to next year for this guy. Another keeper.
30. Mathieu Bertrand B+ ST standout until his injury sidelined him for the year. Was sorely missed the remainder of the way.
31. Joey Thomas No Grade.
32. Damien Anderson B Showed potential of being a bruising type of back who can punish defences ( provided he get's the ball more than 7 times a game) Will the esks tailor their offence to take advantage ot two promising tailbacks in Anderson and Ebell, or will we do something stupid like cut one of them?
35. Jarred Winkel C SOS pick off the Bomber scrap heap. part of the continuing ST Nightmare on Norwood Ave.
39. Agustin Barrenechea B- Mid season aquisition who will sign soon a new contract here. NI linebacker adds depth where we are very thin. Decent ST guy who played hurt.
41. Brandon Guillory No Grade. Career status unknown.
42. Rob Hitchcock C- ST SOS call that made little or no impact.
43. JR LaRose C- Was being counted upon ( unfairly? ) by DM to be an impact player in his second year. Didn't come to camp in top shape then got hurt early and wound up losing his starting role. Remains to be seen whwre his career goes next season. Will he come back strong and regain his starting role or will he squander his talent and remain a support player?
44. Kenny Onatolu C+ Started off strong but faded to the point of losing his roster spot. Can he come back next year and show he belongs?
45. Kenny Hollis B- Guard Dog proved to be a valuable ST player in his second stint this year. Should be back next season. Could be a diamond in the rough.
49. Tim Cheatwood B- Mid season pick up who showed some good things. Good pursuit to the ball carrier and plays the run 10x better than Abdulah. Will he continue to get his career back on track next year here?
50. Rhett McLane D This project is over.
51. Aaron Fiacconi B Supposedly signed a new deal. Good aquisition by DM. Could be penciled in as a starter next year, perhaps at center?
52. Taylor Inglis B Snapping alone would warrant an A but as a full time ST'er he get's lowered by the overall poor level of ST play. Can we justify keeping him here if we are forced to dress a seperate punter and place kicker?
55. Michael Botterill C+ Depth guy who played when we switched to a 3-4. Made little or no impact on defence. We need to improve this roster spot IMO.
56. Patrick Kabongo B Continues his development. Still has some trouble against pure speed rushers but largely made impact players like Brett Johnson and Fred Perry ineffective this year. Also did not give up any blindside hits in the 6 games when he had the responsibility of protecting LeFors' back. That says a lot.
57. Trey Darilek B Look for him to push Roundtree off this team next year. I think he's better suited at guard than at center. Plays nasty.
58. Raleigh Roundtree B- Looked worn out by season's end. Perhaps due to a high level of pass rush snaps? Injury? Need to improve this import roster spot, IMO.
62. Terriss Paliwoda No Grade. Current Oline project.
63. Joe McGrath B+ Team's best pass blocker, looked to have a bit of an adjustment with his assignments with LeFors being a lefty. Still a solid campaign.
64. Tim Bakker C- When a NI center get's replaced by a second import lineman, the writing's on the wall.
67. Dan Comiskey C+ Wasn't at his best prior to getting hurt but the half season off could do a lot of good for the rest of his body. Hopefully he is ready to go next year.
77. AJ Gass B+ Rough start on run defence early in the season but lead the defence to a much improved run stopping attack and held RB's like Payton and Smith to season lows. Give AJ guys around him who can fly and he is still good enough to sniff out plays and get the job done. Would have to say he's the team leader in the locker room now.
80. Quentin McCord C Unable to generate any big plays in the time we've seen him. Still a question mark.
82. Fred Stamps C+ Became LeFors' fav target but is still learning this game and where the holes are in this field. Should be back next year.
83. Jason Tucker C Injuries basicly wiped out this year for him.
84. TJ Acree B Was on his way to a very solid season until cut down by injury. I'm excited to see Slim Shady come back strong next year.
85. Trevor Gaylor D Had a golden opportunity to establish himself as a starter and go-to guy and literally dropped it. His ticket out of town I think is punched.
86. Maurice Mann No Grade.
87. Mike Lindstom D Does anyone even notice this guy?
88. Andrew Nowacki B Had a solid season and saw more opportunities this year. Still displays solid hands most of the time.
91. Adam Braidwood B- Slow start and came on with the rest of the defence in the second half. Might be suited next year to be more effective to add some weight and move inside as lack of quickness could be an added factor coming off knee surgery.
92. Zach Anderson No Grade.
93. Michael Jean-Louis F- This guy is B-A-D. Fugly bad. Right from the opening whistle at mini camp he had no business on this team. The new "Chris Hardy".
94. Rob Brown D Hugely disappointing season. Rob could be pushed out the door next year. Was largely ineffective and unnoticable though large stretches of the season.
95. Charles Alston F Need to improve this import roster spot.
96. Issac Keys C Limited play time showed to be largley inconsistent.
99. Ron Warner B Very slow start, lost his starting spot and regained it back and took his game up several notches. Became a dominant force in the middle would didn't get much help inside.
ST Coach - Scott Squires C- Saw lots of innovation early and exciting plays and execution and then it all went away once the injury bug began playing musical chairs with the ST personel and all the exciting stuff disapppeared. Poor punt teams caused direct losses.
Dline Coach - Mal Hunter B After a very rough start largely hampered by poor personel, and questionable schemes, the dline had a much better second half of the season. Give Coach Mello some talent and I believe he can create a dominant group.
LB Coach - Dan Kepley B- Too undecided early on establishing personel. Poor evaluation on Perryman as a SAM backer cost us games early. Came back with a better more solidified group in the second half.
D Co-ord - Rick Campbell B- - Rick sure likes to mimic Stubler defences ( see the standing 7 formation late in the season) , trouble is we didn't have the talent. I still think he isn't as bad as others think. I know there are some former defensive stalwarts who think he's a good coach.
Oline - Carl Brennan - C So let me get this straight. We can't come up with more innovative or effective plays than slide zone run blocking? Our scheme in the run game makes me want to wretch half the time. Considering we pass block 80+% of the time we ought to be pretty good at that, but we aren't, besides McGrath. I know it's not all the loine coaches fault but he deserves to wear goat horns for our piss poor short yardage efforts and lack of smashmouth run blocking.
QB's - Rick Worman - B+ Did a pretty good job witnessed by how he got LeFors and Jyles ready to play when RR went down.
RB's - Terry Eisler - C+ What kind of grade do you give a RB coach when our offensive scheme only handed the ball off 7-8 times a game for over half a season?
O Co-ord - Jacques Chapdelaine C Is it true that your pre season playbook had a grand total of two run plays blocked 5 different ways???? Your complete disregard for any kind of run game for large parts of the season is your undoing as it sure sounds like you'll be on the chopping block. Guilty of trying to bang a square peg into a round hole with a sponge hammer.
HC/GM/PP - Danny Macciocia - C- Made some good moves with the aquisitions of Fiacconi, Barrenechea, along with the signings of Williams, Shabazz, Peterson, Acree, and Ebell, but our drafting still sucks week old bong water, inserting McLendon back in for a very effective Ebell, along with the way you handled your personel in other areas has me very concerned with the possibility of DM as a full time GM. DM would be best served by having another senior football guy in the office with he and Rick. It can't hurt at this point.
CEO - Rick Lelacheur B I think Rick is taking too much heat by fans lashing out for change. I'm sure that the business of Eskimo Football is sound and for that, he's doing his job. Again would be well suited to go out and hire an experienced football guy to take a spot in the office to help both he and Danny.
