    Higgins tipped his hand?

Did I miss hearing this discussed? From the Sportsnet website...

    Higgins tipped his hand?

Was Tom Higgins thinking of moving to the Calgary Stampeders while he was coaching the Edmonton Eskimos last season?

Edmonton punter Sean Fleming said he was. Fleming, in an interview Tuesday with THE TEAM 1040 in Vancouver, said: "It's my understanding that he was in discussions with Calgary or their potential ownership before (last) season ended."

Fleming also said: "I don't have a problem with that."

But the Eskimos, and the CFL, should.
    Turf Toe:
    - "...turf toe is a common malady that is more of a nuisance than a serious injury."
    - "Turf toe can often progress into a chronic problem..."
    - "A mild instance of turf toe (grade 1) can be merely aggravating while a serious case (grade 3) can be debilitating."

In my eyes (and others) he was never really an eskimo anyways. In the long run the organization will be better off without him.
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

That would explain a lot of things that happened last season.

Wow...that's interesting to say the least...

I don't know what to think about that.

coaches want to win no matter what. Whats in it for Higgins to purposely lose games? This is going to be blown way out of proportion real quick.

I don't think anyone is saying he purposely lost games...

Actually, it does seem some people are implying it....
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Playoff game, third and long in your own end and you try a fake punt.

                      Gusty call? Yes.
                      Smart call? No.
                      Purposely throw a game? No.
Do you care if you loose your job? No.
Go out with a bang? Yes.

Isn't that sort of thing against the rules due to conflict of interest and suspicion it raises?

Then again, this is Sean's understanding of things. Not necessarily what happened.

I dunno it seems like a stretch, If he wanted to do that he could have been the first to miss the playoffs in 30 whatever years, he had every oppourtunity down the stretch.

One would think so, but the world of coaching football seems to be an odd one.

College ball down in the states, there are coaches that have been fired mid season, but are allowed to stay around and finish it. Others that have actually already publically signed to coach elsewhere the next year while the season is still ongoing... although that coach I believe was going to the NFL not another institute, but that point is he's already commited elsewhere while still working for a school.

Of course none of that means Higgins did any of that, but even if he had I think he's of character to still do his best for the Eskimos.

                              Re: Higgins tipped his hand?

I'm not saying he threw any game. I agree, any coach or any one wanting a future in the league wouldn't do something like that. I think Higgins is a character guy.

The risk he took was to help the Esks succeed. Make no mistake about that. But you'd be more likely to take more risks if your job isn't on the line.

If that gamble works then Higgins is a hero and possibly keeps his job with the Esks.

If it fails, you already have a backup plan in case you get let go.

So a high risk call becomes a no risk call (personally for Higgins).
