Article about GC being only on TSN, not CTV, etc., couple of other points about changes.

Biggest one for me is:

On another issue, TSN will encounter some conflicts when it airs every CFL regular season game in 2008. On Sunday, Sept. 21, for example, the Ryder Cup is scheduled for the full day. However, at 1 p.m. EST, the Edmonton Eskimos will play the Montreal Alouettes.

It's unlikely CTV will be able to take the CFL game, because of its commitment to the NFL. That leaves TSN's alternate digital channel, which has limited distribution, to carry the game.

I have basic cable - no digital. I don't get TSN alternate. So I sure as heck hope that they can arrange something with Shaw, or another network, so that I can get the game, as I should. Otherwise, I'll be EXTREMELY pissed off, especially as that's a road game.

Well, I have Bell ExpressView and I do get TSN-A. But, I hear what you guys are saying. I was happy to get rid of CBC, too, but, now that I see the 2008 schedule (with all of the Thursday night games) and I hear this, maybe I was too hasty.

Yes, TSN Alternate is the actual name. On Bell ExpressView it is Channel 402 (TSN-A). TSN regular is 400 and TSN-HD is 850.

For someone who doesnt have cable, or sattelite the switch to TSN sucks! Now I am stuck with Hallsie.......

Nuts to that...come to the get-together(s). Failing that, hopefully some charitable soul with digital would be able to have a few people over.

None of us should be stuck with Hall if we can help it. A group effort might be needed here.

We were getting the TSN feed on channel 11 with shaw but its still got the fireplace from Christmas on there. Maybe it will return.

Yep, for whatever reason, Shaw has dropped TSN alternate. Pathetic, really. Here is a link to all the cable/satellite operators in Canada who carry TSN Alternate and also shows the channel number:

I get basic cable because I don't watch that much TV. TSN is now included in most cable packages. Never heard of TSN alternate.

In my basic cable, I don't get FOX. While I'm not a big baseball fan, I might watch the World Series. But I can't so my interest in the game continues to decline.

Taking the CFL away from mainstream channels is a horrible idea. That is no way to increase the fan base.

Steve O'Brien's (2005) book The Canadian Football League: The phoenix of professional sports leagues has a pretty decent chapter (ch. 11 - "Don't Shoot the Messenger") on how the media and the CFL have had a fairly tenuous relationship over the years. I can't help but wonder how, after all this time, the networks (along with the league) can't get this thing right??? I realize that it's not the NFL. But, it IS our national football league! So, c'mon TSN ... get it right! Put the CFL (and the Grey Cup) in the place where it belongs ... up front and to the broadest audience possible!!!

But to close with a line from O'Brien's book, there is one way to deal with this (for those who can) ... and that's by "attending a game" (p. 269). What better reason to book your trip to Montreal? Or to buy season tickets? If you love this game, get your ass in the seats when and wherever possible!
