    Another "this schedule sucks" thread.

The NFL is heading into week 3.

After a bazillion Thursday games, when do the Esks play, now that there is actually competition on TV?

    11:00 AM. Sunday.

Same time as kickoff for Week 3.

..... can the CFL actually be this stupid? Honestly? Where were the Sunday games all freaking Summer!? When there was no competition!? WHY ON EARTH DO WE TRY AND GO HEAD-TO-HEAD AGAINST THE NFL? EVER?

    So bloody stupid.

All Montreal home games have to be on Sunday at this time of year. That's their contract with McGill apparently...

Nah. That's just the reality of sharing a stadium with a university that was there first, owns the land, the stadium, and everything else, and uses the field for a great many things. The Als have extremely little clout in this deal, I would imagine, especially considering there is another stadium in town that is available.

Unless the Als want to draw 15k to the Big Owe every two weeks, that's what they have to deal with. I really don't see it as a problem for the rest of the league...we're only there once, after all.

Because they get a warm and fuzzy feeling (and sell-out crowds) at Percival Molson.

Olympic Stadium sucks and fans don't want to go there. Baseball stadiums make lousy football parks as the best seats (midfield) are 30 yards from the sidelines. As it is the Als sell out all their games, what's the problem?

PDO - The CFL is a fan league where the ticket payers generate most of the revenue. Those people want their summer weekends free, hence weekday games.

As it is TSN has too much clout re scheduling.

At 20,202 seats, I think the problem would be obvious. Even with the highest ticket prices in the league, with the salary cap escalating, it's a matter of time until they can't afford to play at Percival Molson. I've heard that they were looking to expand the seating, but they really need a 30,000 seat stadium eventually.

Well, I was beat to it.

Once again: TV is a fantastic way to GROW fans. Again, take a look at the Chicago Blackhawks as a case study of everything wrong to do with a sports franchise.

                    The goal should be:

                    A) Get people excited.
                    B) Keep people excited long enough for them to become loyal.
                    C) Don't outright spit in their face.

That is ALL you have to do to be a successful ($$) sports franchise. And just ask the BoSox - sometimes you can get away with #3.

How the hell do you get the 2nd largest city in Canada excited.... by allowing 20,000 people watch the game while the other few million are debating to watch the NFL or the CFL?

It just doesn't make ANY bloody sense.

56Parkies - I agree that Molson Stadium is too small. The ideal CFL stadium is the 1978 version of Commonwealth stadium that had about 40,000 sideline seats. All I'm saying is that the Als are able to sell out their current stadium with the restrictions they have in place (Sundays only after Labour Day).

PDO - It seems to me that you are making an argument for lifting home game blackouts because none of those 2 million people would be seeing the Als Sunday games anyway if there was a blackout.
