    Kelly Campbell Gone

    http://www.edmontonjournal.com/sport...760/story.html

There were conflicting reports Tuesday that talented Edmonton Eskimos receiver Kelly Campbell has signed a National Football League contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Two Canadian Football League sources confirmed the signing, stating the contract had been registered with the NFL.

If that's the case, the Eskimos were unaware of it, as of late Tuesday night.

So maybe he'll go drop passes for them now.

I hope we don't lose him but if we do, I'm sure we can find some capable players to fill his position.

working out for them is still not quite the same as signing with them.....if he does, I'd be very surprised....he's going to cost someone some dough in the NFL.....

Time will tell, but this would be a tough loss for the Esks.

            This just in from TSN:

Buccaneers Sign CFLers Johnson and Campbell

Taking advantage of the window allowing CFL players entering their option year to sign NFL contracts, Edmonton receiver Kelly Campbell and B.C. Lions linebacker Jamall Johnson have both signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Campbell, 28, led the CFL in average yards per catch at 22.6 yards The Georgia Tech product made 54 catches for 1,223 yards and seven touchdowns in his first CFL campaign.

Reports out of Tampa indicate Johnson has signed a two-year 'future' contract.

Players who are signed to 'future' contracts mean that they are signed for the 2009 season even though that season does not officially start until February 27. Only players who were not on any NFL team's active roster when the 2008 season began are eligible for such contracts.

Where there's smoke, there's usually fire. This one is going too hurt because he is a true deep threat, much like Tuck, but of course, Tuck's future is in doubt. Best gain per catch average in the league will not be easy to replace.

He was our best receiver last year. On the plus side, we can now comfortably fit Mann on the roster, and possibly Prator as well. He's a big loss though, added another dimension to our team, none of our other receivers have that kind of speed.

This has been reported in the Journal noted as "conflicting reports", and on TSN. Nothing on the Bucs site or the official NFL page.

No gaurantee he sticks, it just means they have him under contract to come to camp IMO

Agreed. I don't know who Tampa Bay has for receivers, but my guess is that he will probably be back here at some point next season.

exactly.......and IIRC he has tenured his 3 years already, and puts him in a free agent category that next year means (if the Buc's keep him) they must pay him no less than $1,010,000 for the 2009 season.....

Receivers are a dime a dozen. It's not like he was a Jason Tucker.

Mann can step up and fill his role no problem.

If he doesn't come back I'm pretty confident that the guys we do have will step up.

hopefully he will be back but if not, good luck to him!

i am hopeful we can replace him, maybe rector will get a clser look?? or mann gets more work!

either way i`m hopeful & like diesel says, at least he is under contract to us should the nfl cut him adrift!!
