As a backup role which may be his only option, if I'm KJ I'm going to Hamilton. That's his best shot at winning a starting job off the bench.

I agree, but he was quoted saying that he felt he was better than some starting QB's in the league so I still think hes gonna have a tough time adjusting to a backup role, but I firmly believe that Khari is a team guy and wont cause a problem in the locker room because of it.

Couldn't agree more. And I for one believe he is better than at least one starter in this league-Henry Burris.

I disagree. I'd take Burris over Jones.

I would, however, take Jones over Greene, McManus, and Allen.

I'm not entirely sure how good a fit Khari would be with the Esks.

First of all, it's unlikely that he'll be happy in a backup role, which is what he clearly would be if he came to Edmonton. Secondly, if Khari is forced to settle for a #2 spot with some team, he would be more likely to see game action somewhere else, most likely in Hamilton (which is why I'm surprised it wasn't included in the article), making it a more feasible destination. Thus, Khari would probably not consider Edmonton among his top choices.

However, if he does end up deciding to come here, I would much rather have him than Crandell. To disagree with Nanookster, not only is Khari a more consistent QB than Crandell, but he is also healthier. Crandell's health has been spotty over the last couple of seasons, whereas Khari hasn't had serious injury problems, IIRC. Crandell may have the one GC to show for himself, but other than the one brilliant half-season he played, he hasn't really shown anything. Khari has two outstanding seasons (2001 and 2002) under his belt, and although his numbers declined in 2003, he still had a half-decent campaign. Overall, Khari has had more success than Crandell.

Finally, I do not believe there will be a QB controversy if Khari comes to Edmonton. The coaching staff has already made their dedication to Jason clear, and considering Jason's superb season last year in comparison to Khari's dismal one, their rankings on the team wouldn't even be close. Also, as Fishman pointed out, the article stipulated that Jason thrives on competition, and to have a proven backup behind him would only motivate him to work harder. Considering Jason's history of injury, which is hopefully behind him, having a reliable backup is more important than worrying about whether or not a QB controversy would erupt.

I hate this idea. Then you have an instant QB controversey. That's the last thing we need this year. Maas will constantly be looking over his shoulder and people will be demanding Jones come in anytime Jason struggles.

QB's have to be mentally tough and not worry about all that BS. The better the back up we can get the better for us (with contract cost in mind of course.) If Maas's play is going to suffer just because we have a high profile backup he's not the QB I thought he was.

Why do people feel Ottawa and Hamilton are in such dire need for a backup QB...sure Danny Mac is at the end of his string in Steeltown but they do have Marcus Brady in the wings, and as for Ottawa until Kerry Joseph got injured last year he was the hottest QB in the league, and they have Brad Banks in the wings.

As for him to the EE, I'd rather him not because the team has had two good QB's before and mishandled it badly(remember the 2 QB system...sure it was Flanders team but Coach M was a part of it)

I see Khari going back to Winnipeg, with an outside chance of going to the Argos.
The Roughriders just re-signed Butler so I don't see them being an option for Khari.

I think they are. Greene was on a radio show Friday afternoon and people were calling in and praising him and sucking up to him big time.

Wouldn't you want a capable backup to take over in case Maas has problems? Jones is 33, so he might only have 2-3 years left (Damon Allen types not withstanding).

I say forget it. The guy is washed up. He throws way to many picks , to many passes dropping 5 feet in front of receivers. As well the guy won't be happy as a back up so I think Crandell may be a better fit. If not I would not mind seeing J.J get the job and see what he can do.
