Eric Lee was late getting onto the field, don't know what it was about...
Eric Ware put the pads on but was not able to go, he spent the day on the bike...never took off the pads but never got into practice. Lenny also joined the injury squad. It didn't seem serious, upper body I think. Kosec sat out and so did White again. Ellis can be added to that list. I think he started the day, but was standing around without pads by the end of the day. Stamps looked to be in pain after conditioning...the trainers were looking at him and he laid on the ground for a while, held his shoulder while walking back to the room with the trainer.
Malveaux moved into Lenny's SAM spot and Hunter took the starting HB spot. He looked average at best today. Fontenot had a nice bounce-back day, did well in 1 on 1s and got in INT during scrimmage. Bobby Keyes really struggled today, didn't win any battles, gave some wrong communications, and the coaches had a lot of words with him throughout the day...they seemed encouraging but possibly getting frustrated. Hairston has been trying to correct Buhl's tendency of flying in, tucking his head, and going for the upper body when tackling. Buhl hasn't shown much improvement, but it looks something they will really focus on with him. Gordon had a decent day overall, however, Nugent may also push him for that spot. Nugent had a decent day and Gordon has not been overwhelmingly good at that spot. Herron had an off and on day, made some good plays and got beat a few times. Underwood is back on the field, had an average day. Malveaux played well, broke up a few plays and got an INT. Goss looked pretty good in 1 on 1s, but lost assignments on the flats during scrimmage. B-Rob was the best DB by a long shot, a few break-ups, 2 INTs, and overall good coverage. Didn't see much of Tristan.
Kamau and Stamps were still the best receivers, but not as good as yesterday. The receiver I noticed the most was Hill. He caught everything, including some tough ones, ran good routes, overall good day for him. Mo Mann was handled by B-Rob is scrimmage, but was the beneficiary of broken coverage (between Fontenot and Underwood) and got a TD. Thornton had another good day...filling the role of small, quick receiver with Ware out. Good hands too....there may be a battle between Challenger and Luciana heating up. Challenger had a few easy drops and Luciana ran some pretty good routes in 1 on 1s, but had a few overthrows given to him. Wuthrich might enter that battle, but he's a definite 3rd at this point. Still, catches almost everything that comes his way and then drops an easy one. Barnes had a decent day but couldn't find the ball on deep patterns. Turner didn't show a whole lot.
Zabransky had a few overthrows today, he's much better at rolling out and dumping it off....I'd put Ricard in the 3rd spot at this point.
Whitlock was making people miss in a phonebooth today, solid outing, and showed improvement in the blocking drill. McCarty was the best all-around RB out there. I never knew if he was going to lower the shoulder or juke. He was solid in blocking and the special teams drills. Fason sat out most of the day again. Lumsden sat out a few drills and doesn't appear the have the same intensity as McCarty.
Bell again blocked well but appears to be best when the ball is not in his hands. Czieki was pretty good in all the drills I saw him, but not great. Good fundamentals.
Restelli has been demoted, Kepley doesn't like how he overpursues and lunges when tackling. He's on the 3rd team defense and didn't see much of the field during scrims. Abinikanda moved up onto the 2nd team defense. He has been very good in the pass rushing drill. The legs keep going and he has a good motor. He was better today in the drill for tackling in space. I would rate him ahead of Doggett, who has not done anything special IMO, and might be in jeopardy of losing his starting spot. Rod Davis was average again. I noticed Whalen more than I did yesterday, but he's still a longshot. Mo Lloyd has not been stellar, but has a knack for finding holes during run game drills and filling them, he would have a few nice hits if we were going live.
Again, didn't see a lot of the DL/OL stuff, but I did noticed Davis moving between end and tackle, but doing better at tackle. His agility is best used there. Peach did quite well, kept contain when it went run or pass to the opposite side, was in the backfield pretty quickly and had a good day. However, he was going up against Coleman alot since Garrick was out with what I assume if brused ribs, he had ice taped to his upper body somewhere.
Schiavone and Elaschuk were punting after practice. Schiavone had good height but only went 35-40 yards. Elas had the same distance but punted a lot of low knuckleballs.
The most common phrase of the day was: 'There you go KP!'...shouted by Kabongo every time KP made a catch in scrim, which was often.
I was standing by the fence when I looked over and saw JR LaRose standing beside. He talked to a few players and overheard him saying that he just starting running.
There was some pushing today between plays in fire drill. It appeared to be between our two 2nd round picks, Hinse and Sterling, but it ended there.
