    Need I remind everyone.....

    that in the midst of this Riderfan-esque panic and overreaction that there is still only 2 points seperating 1st and last in the west. Which means it's still anyone's season.

    Have we had a couple of bad games where it doesn't seem like our crew has ever played together before? Yes.....but for the love of god we aren't going to go 18-0........we are still just as competitive as any other team in the West, and still have more than enough potential to end up in 1st.

    The sky is not falling.....we've had a bad couple of games.

    And of course the refs are sure not helping us..... Sorry had to get that in there.

    Interesting that it was the Riders who moaned and bitched for a salary cap, and since a cap was put in place for them, they only years they've won they broke the salary cap rules.

    While I agree that the team isn't necessarily going to miss the playoffs, losing 4 out of the last 5 isn't exactly a "couple of bad games." But you're right - might as well not give hope - yet.

      It's just really disappointing that this team started pulling away from the pack about two months ago and it looked like we might be hosting our first home playoff game in five seasons, yet now it's beginning to look like it could be a big struggle to even get the crossover.

        My thought on this is simple - between blowing home games to SSK and CGY in the past month, and losing games to WPG and BC so far that year because of no-showing, this team has no excuse to be anything less than 8-5 at this point.

        They're 6-7 and are grossly underachieving. Plain and simple.

          Yes I have noticed that is getting to be more and more of a tendency around this site....not cool at all.

            Here's the deal...

            The SMS was intended to create parity in the CFL... and looky here, with five games left, the last place team in the west could be first in one week.

            I think that's way cool.

            Now, it would be way cooler if it was because every team in the west was equally GREAT... but that's not the case in '09. What we have instead is a team with a (basically) rookie starting QB, a team with a rookie HC, a team that lost a CHUNK to the NFL and free agency, and Calgary, who more or less fluked last year.

            But it is what it is... Edmonton is not a bad team. They're also not a great team.

            Insert EVERY other team in the west and you've got what we've got.

            The end of the season is going to be INTENSE. Yeah we'd all like our teams to be running away with 1st, but alas, we have to play in the Men's Division.

            I will end with this with, anyone suggesting Ricky Ray be replaced/traded = IDIOT.

            Six out of 8 teams in this league would wreck five pairs of pants at the chance to land him.

            The Riders will have Cal, Cal will have Ed, Ed will have The Riders, and BC will have at least The Riders... figuring out 1 thru 4 will make the CFL BOD heads explode.

            That can only be a good thing.

              How exactly did Calgary fluke it last year by winning 10 of their last 11 games? That was a hell of a team and they are capable of doing it again.

                  The sky might not be falling, but the good ship "Eskimo" is starting to list. The Offence has been offensive and the Special teams have been "special" alright. I just don't think the talent is here yet, to be a contender.

                  How did we ever get in this 3 yard pass on 2nd and 11 rut?

                    The West is a horse race, and all the horses are bunched up as they hit the home stretch. But earlier the EE were tied for the lead , and poised to pull away. Now the EE are flagging, and tied for last.

                    Losing four of the last five games is of great concern. Especially since the EE were anemic in three of those four losses.

                    In the CFL, three out of every four teams makes the playoffs. And yes, each one of those teams (regardless of how crappy they might have played during the season) that does get into the playoffs has a legitimate shot at winning the Grey Cup. And yes, it has happened way more than once that a previously cold squad gets hot, wins three consecutive playoff games and presto – they’re the champs.

                    However … is a season of mediocrity acceptable?
                    Is there joy, satisfaction and pride in mediocrity?

                    Edmonton won the Cup in 2005. Other than that, what do I recall about that season? I remember a lot of frustration with DM, and the team finishing third when they coulda/shoulda easily finished first. But other than that – about all I remember is Jason Maas coming off a bench that DM had nailed him to all season to win both the Western Semi-final and Final. I remember JM’s heart, in those games, more than I remember the Grey Cup. As far as I’m concerned – JM in the 2005 playoffs is one of my best Eskimo memories (and my memory goes back to Jackie Parker as QB).


                    I know that Vince Lombardi said the following:
                    “Winning isn’t everything, its the only thing”

                    But he also said:

                    “The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur”.

                          Panic? This team is sucking large right now. We may not be out of it, but there is no indication that these guys are about to go on a winning streak.
