The NFL draft situation and its ties to the edmonton eskimos

I'm confused and wonder if someone might be able to help me out. With Jeanty possibly getting drafted to the NFL this weekend I was first under the impression that we had his rights because he was in his option year; Then I was led to believe that if a NFL team drafted him they had the option to buy out his contract; Now after reading the journal this morning im under the impression that they can offer to buy out his contract and it's up the the esks if we wanna sell it. Well does anyone know which it is?

Also I seen an article in the journal about a guy on our neg. list who had drawn mant comparisons to ricky ray. There was one thing that really stood out in my mind, he had a 75% pass comp. percentage. I guess we have a vested interest in this weekends draft and especially tommorows late round selections. If anyone knows anything about this louisville QB on our neg. list and could provide a few things about the guy that would be awesome.
    Thanks.
My 2 favourite teams are the esks and whoevers playin the stamps!!!

Yeah the Jeanty situation is a mystery to me as well. I was under the same impressions as you. I've heard that an NFL team could buy out his contract from the Esks, it sounded like it was part of the agreement and there was nothing the Esks could do about it. As you said, in the paper today it sounds like it is up to the Esks to approve the buyout (which they won't do). I don't think Jeanty will be drafted now, if he is it will be a 6th or 7th.

Stephan LeFors is the QB you are talking about. (Louisville I believe?) I saw him play once last year on tv and he was impressive, reminded me of Matt Dunnigan for some reason. I think he will be drafted in the later rounds and won't be available to the Esks for at least a number of years. I wouldn't worry about him in the near future.

The thing that I was most impressed with about ricky ray was his demenor. Theres an excitement in watching someone thats running your offence to have that calmness. If LaFors has that i'm already a fan.

LeFors was drafted in the 4th round so there is virtually no chance he will be an Eskimo any time soon (as in a number of years)

Jeanty has yet to be drafted and they're on the 6th pick of the 7th round. Is he pretty much guaranteed to be an Eskimo next season if he isn't drafted or is there still an opportunity for him to sign on with an NFL team for training camp? I'd really like to see him start the year with Montford on our d-line...

Jeanty wasn't drafted- and I"m unclear what can happen next - is he for sure going to be in green and gold next season - or can he still sign with an NFL team ?

I believe he'll be with the Esks, as IIRC he's under contract. The only way he would've gone to the NFL was if he got drafted and the NFL team bought out his contract, or something like that.

It would seem to make more sense if an NFL team were able to buy out his contract regardless of the draft. The draft shouldnt change much, but what do I know
I told those f***s down at the league office a thousand times that I don't roll on Shabbos!

Yeah, I don't know...it might have something to do with the fact that no team had his NFL rights, therefore no one could buy it out because his rights were with the Esks, or something. I don't know, I'm just going off what I heard......and there's gotta be something, otherwise the CFL/NFL option year deal would have very little reason to be because any NFL team could buy a contract out when they wanted to.

Yah, I would love some official clarification on all this but it looks like hes heading back to the great north.

Eskiez did some research on this and posted in another thread. Jeanty is staying up here since the FA period ended Feb. 26, IIRC.
