40 year ESKie fan.Lived the last 26 in SK.All has been good except for the DM years.Like to keep this a football discussion which includes Sonics moves but his personal stuff you can leave out.I will leave it to those that have never sinned to throw the first stone!Personally i think he knows his stuff but screws up some just like other GMs.At the time if there was other football men outthere with the same credentials i would have hired them rather than deal with all the baggage Eric has.I guess the BOD only knows for sure and it is thier responsibility and liability.

4-3 defence

Williams Laurant Danny O Howard on the line,lots of capable backup behind them.I think going to the 4-3 helps our passrush.Disappointed to see Peach go as he was fave of mine but obviously coaches liked Williams and Howard better as when Peach came back from injury he played little D-end.Made little sense to sign him to a starters contract if you think the other ends are better.Danny O from Peg.I watched him closely a couple of times when Brown was hurt and he was getting lots of reps and i was impressed.Great energy and quickness.Played better than Brown.I think we have a formidable line with depth and will be huge strength for us.I always believe to win consistently you have to have a great O-line and D-line.Back later with backs and l-backers.Fire away!

Biggest talking points about the 2012 defense for me:

What kind of impact with Jenntry have? His success or lack thereof will either make losing Peach a non-issue or a huge mistake.

Who will play MLB, and will they have sucess? Will it be a new face, Sherritt, or Munoz? This is how we will measure the loss of Davis, and even of Restelli (as an OLB may move inside, costing us some depth).

Do we have an upgrade over the released Jykine Bradley at corner?

Will changing defensive coordinators cause a big drop off in effectiveness?

The on field results is how I will rate the management here... Are we better than in 2011? Status-quo? or demonstrably worse.
I predict that Restelli, Davis, and Peach will all have sucess elsewhere next year (not to mention Stubler in BC). So right now I am concerned.

I actually think going back to the 4-3 base may hurt our pass rush. Right now the biggest concern may be the secondary. Chris Thompson was not as good last year but is still a good player. Weldon Brown played very well. Rod Williams was a ball hawk but got exposed at times. I think we are shaky right now in the secondary, Hervey and the boys better come up with some DB talent.

I'm interested to see the rush D compared to last year if we do go back to the 4-3. Typically 3-4 is softer vs. the run than the 4-3 but I was happy with how we defended the run last year. Also interested to see where Jeanty plays.

That said, our d didn't get gashed as badly as I thought it would with the 3-4

I think its more that Tillman like Jeanty better than Peach.

Safety will be a point of interest for me. Alexander was a non-factor back there last year so will the staff look for an import like TJ Hill to play safety? Is Lopez a candidate?

Sam LB as well, if TJ Hill is moved to safety (or retires?) who is the heir? Pittman played the position in 2011 but not highly effective. It's a tough position for a rookie to adjust to as a hybrid LB/DB.

Trend is to taller body at safety position. Look at the height of receivers in this league its pretty much 6.2 or taller and your seeing teams recruiting taller defensive backs this year.

Haven't you heard? Our kick off specialist is going to be our safety. (Justification number 23.4 as to why Shaw was a great part of the Ray trade.)

Sheritt is a tackling machine but seems a little small for MLB.I think Munoz looks more like a MLB.Dont know what his experience is though.I hope Nelson can do the same improvements with Munoz he did with Davis. theres that space bar !!!! I would like us to go with an import safety and leave Alexander as the backup unless Lopez is ready. Alexander is serviceable and that is about it,dont see alot of further potential. I think Pittman will get a look somewhere in the backfield. I believe it was Jedrock who said he had the best cover skills in practise.

Diesel you saying Peach was let go because he was from previous regime I take. Lots of times it sure looks like it and alot of the same happened when he was in SK but I personally think Kavis does make the decisions, otherwise he would have had to play Baumann and didnt. that left a big wart on Sonics face all season.
