Dude.....several reasons were given, in hopes that the majority who despised the trade would pick one of the justifications and use that to give it a chance.

The idea was what you've seen so far. Sonic just counted on better results. If our record was reversed, no one would be talking about these "developing QB's" seeing starts now.

If someone told you one reason like that and you've pinned your hopes on it, then both you or your source have been somewhat duped I think.

I can guarantee you that any move we make over the next two years, any signing, trade, draft pick it will be stated that we could only make the move due to the 'cap flexibility' we had after the Ray trade. That is the one and only way they can try and save face on that move and it will be made often.

Nichols not playing is a mystery for sure.
I look back with fond memories when Edmonton was the quarterback factory for the league for years. Now we pick up leftovers. Is scouting to blame in not being able to identify a good CFL type prospect?

I know why ray was traded, u know why ray was traded.. I honestly don't care about the other aspects apart from finding our next 2/3 qbs.. Which I had hoped we would..

But we both know a lot more than we let on about the ray trade I thinks

When I peaked at the qbs on the neg list there were some very good what I would deem cfl style qbs on there

Fair question. With all due respect to Jason Maas, Ricky Ray is the only elite level CFL QB to come out of that Eskimo QB factory in nearly a generation. Prior to Ray you have to look at Tracy Ham as being the last top notch Eskimo groomed QB to go on to success elsewhere and he left 20 years ago.

yeah well, the real sad thing here is that we had a chance to do so (and moving forward) the last two years....and could still have with Ray here. We haven't had anyone in the head chair putting the team ahead of ego for some time.

                  That desperately needs to change.

But at least Maas was decent you didn't cover your eyes everytime the quarterback would throw the ball

And if the Baltimore Ravens had him, they would have at worst been 19-0 last year
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

We are in Quarterback limbo after losing a great QB. All teams go through that. Winnipeg has looked for a QB for a long time after Khari. Toronto forever since Flutie. Sask finally got Durant after Joseph and tons of others. Hamilton has never found that young QB to lead them all the time.

Calgary has been lucky to have some sort of continuity of great or VG QBs. Montreal as they never had to replace Cavillio except the one year he sat out. Once he retires look out! B.C. also lucked out having a good QB continuance.
If we were put on this earth to help others, what were the others put on earth for?

Calgary did it right, they waited until Tate rose to the occasion and Burris started to slip... as opposed to Edmonton who gave away their meal ticket with nothing in the cupboard.

I think a kid like Nicholls (or any prospect) could have developed a lot more playing #2 to Ray, and getting progressively worked into the game more and more. It's not like Ray didn't have off games, they just never pulled him, not even in garbage time. Let a kid see spot action 6-8 times a year, if it works, give him a start or two the next, and if he takes, then you trade away Ray.
