I had asked Hervey if he had any interest in bringing back either of linebacker Rod Davis or kicker Derek Schiavone; two former Eskimos who had gone to Montreal in the past year, with both being released by the Alouettes last week. Hervey shot that idea down and as the small group of media present stood up to leave the room, Hervey said again he wasn’t interested in bringing Davis back. He was interested in Rennie Curran as his linebacker.

Curran, 24, spent two years in the NFL, one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and another with the Tennessee Titans, after that team took him in the third round (97th overall) in the 2010 NFL draft. He’s five-foot-11, 230 pounds and in his three-year career at the University of Georgia he was the first player since 1996-97 to have back-to-back 100-tackle seasons. In those three years, he left Georgia as its No. 16 all-time tackler (298).

The Eskimos haven’t signed Curran yet, but are apparently close to a deal.

Check out his bio from his days with the Titans. Some of the highlights: The child of Liberian refugees who escaped civil war in their homeland in the 1980s, Curran is the great-grandson of a Liberian tribal chief who had 25 children. Growing up in Snellville, Georgia, Curran learned how to play the piano, drums and viola as a kid. Since he was in the 11th grade, he’s had a mentor in pro-bowl linebacker Jessie Tuggle. The two met at an Atlanta Falcons-sponsored football camp and have stayed in touch since.

It looks like this could be a pretty big signing, not that often a cfl team signs a 3rd round nfl pick who's only 24. Maybe this is why Hervey was willing to toss Simons Lawrence in on the ham trade?

So is going to be backup to Hill or is safety going to be an import spot again or both?
        14 and counting!

At 5' 11 235 he is too big and not really fast enough to be a safety maybe we will play a 3 - 4. He Sherritt, Munoz, and Hill could be a very versatile and menacing LB corps.

If Lopez, Alexander and Rwambuka play Corner/safety/DB It will give us definite flexibility.

Seems to be a real high end prospect. Don't see a lot of high draft picks like this come up here so young.

              Good for us.

Maybe backup/start in place of Munoz at WIL?

                  Looks a good player..

Has sec pedigree which is always a good thing for dline/lbs. they usually already have that pro speed

Be interesting to see where he features..

Marshall is mostly a 4-3 guy
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

I was about to say that Diesel, all of his defenses have been 4-3, I do not think he has ever run a 3-4, like Stubler, and he can run both a 4-3 and a 3-4, and not to be technical, but a 4-3 defense in the CFL is actually more a 4-2 as that SAM and Will linebacker is responsible to pass coverage on a 5 receiver set, that is why the sam linebacker is more of a SS/DB type, because you cannot tell me that TJ Hill was a linebacker in college at 5:9 195

Sounds intriguing but I've seen enough players come and go with advanced building to buy into the hype...
