I was under the impression that the defence was to be the strength of the Eskimos, keeping them in the game until Riley matured a bit and the offence came together. Shows you how wrong impressions can be. This team can't cover any pass over thirty yards and they can't tackle anyone catching a pass under thirty yards. The pass rush is virtually non-existent and arm tackling running backs seems to be the order of the day. I hope everyone enjoyed the Eskimos one win because that may be it for the season. Once again, Edmonton will be the doormats of the western division.

Considering the reset button was pushed again this season, I am fine with that. Every team in the West is well established in their systems and have veterans in the key positions.Originally posted by Luke View PostOnce again, Edmonton will be the doormats of the western division.
Give it a few more games then we'll have a debate.

interesting to see how some people feel the sky is falling... Others with deep knowledge and passion for the game understand that these things take some time to morph. The Esk's are going to take some time to develop... but there will come a time when it comes together and the W's will come.

Re: Same Old, Same Old!
well after week 4 it is evident to me that the top 3 teams in the league are the stumps, riders and lions. the bottom 3 are clearly the esks, hamilton and winnipeg. the middle 2 are Montreal and Toronto, and it looks to me like Montreal is closer to the bottom 3 than the top, and Toronto closer to the top 3 than the bottom.
I mean did any of us really expect the esks to win either game against BC? That being said, it would have been nice if they were closer with all the obvious gafs pretty painful to watch.
I remain hopeful, although not confident, that as the season goes on the new OC and DC and the entire new Oline and qb will have some gelling. I am still very critical of Hervey for letting Weldon Brown go in what seems like a completely unnecssary move. I mean, with Ray gone and Kabongo, and Bowman on the 9 game, where the hell is all the cap space that they can't afford Weldon Freaking Brown? Also very very critical of him not bringing in a kick returner, a veteran Olineman, even an import (??) and, in 6 years as a scout he has brought in exactly zero import receivers that were any good. Stamps preceded him, Bowman played for the Bombers and Riders, as did Koch, both brought in by Tillman.
Of all the categories on this team, I would say by eye receivers look to be the worst. Oline is mediocre but has been ok in pass protection. Not thrilled with the running lanes but what is up with the receivers dropping about 5 balls a game? they don't appear to be open although that may be the system or Reilly not seeing them. Hint to Reilly - pass to Stamps.
The db's have been a real disappointment and the dline has been ok but not the dominant force we expected. That is partly because the other team usually throws in less than 3 seconds as either the db's are not good or the system isn't good enough.
Final question: Did George Cortez go to Regina bc they paid him more or some other reason? If it was money, the Esks really should have opened the vault...I have been a fan for 35 years and seriously care less and less every year. Another year or two of this and I may just say F it and find an NFL team to cheer for.
In hindsight, I truly believe the biggest mistake the Org made after the fired Maciocia was not bringing in a GM who would hire Milanovich. It was apparent to me that Ray had lots of skill but needed a kick in the ass to improve his 2-3 obvious weekneses. now we rebuild for a few years to find somebody else to be qb and it feels a lot like what Winnipeg has had for years in alex brink, stephen jyles etc etc

Good point. However, please pick another work instead of "Till" hearing that word gives me anxiety thinking there were another 3 letters you forgot to put after that work. We tried to get Cortez.. Re: Same Old, Same Old!
I'm wondering... if we doubled the Riders money offer, would Cortez have suddenly had a lot of "connections" in Edmonton? Tripled??
Good coaches can make average players very good and bad coaches can make very good players average.Last edited by green&gold guy; 07-24-2013, 12:56 PM.

Re: Same Old, Same Old!
It's somewhat unrealistic to think we can throw money around far above market value.
This is still the CFL, and you can bet that Rhodes setting budgets in these areas has to have an eye on the bottom line. Sure, coaches don't count against the cap...but our finances are not unlimited.
There's way too many variables at play to simply say that we could just chuck money around to get what we want. Before you insult a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you insult him, you'll be a mile away, and have his shoes.

Re: Same Old, Same Old!
If Rhodes' goal is to average 40,000 fans for home games, you need a better product on the field. One proven way to improve the on-field product is to hire the right coaches. BC was a joke when Wally and later Shivers were brought in, and now, they are always in the chase for first. How much extra income would 10,000 extra fans bring in??? How much money can they make on a home playoff game?
Rhodes, you gotta break some eggs to make an omelette.Last edited by green&gold guy; 07-24-2013, 06:01 PM.
