So for me the most frustrating thing is seeing our D guys try and tackle guys by shoulder checking them and all of the other sloppy tackling I see. I think we have the worst tackling team in the league.
So what can be done about it? I've listened to interviews from Reed and he pretty much says that it is impossible to practice tackling. I've heard him say this on the radio. I just listened to him again and he pretty much goes into again and gives some reasons like the low roster size, cba rules, you just can't do it, etc...
1. The low roster size. Ok I get this reason. If they were to go full out at practice and guys get injured then all of us would be up in arms over it. Hell, they aren't practicing tackling at full speed and STILL Grymes gets hurt.
2. CBA rule. I'll admit i'm ignorant on this part and I don't know if full contact is limited or banned in the cba or the other provisions related to this part of practice.
3. I really think that Reed just doesn't want to have them practice tackling and just admits to himself that it's not possible to do it.
Ok, I have an interesting article: http://www.torontosun.com/2013/08/03...elers-practice
It's worth a read. I get that the Steelers have a much bigger roster size and more advantages that a CFL team will not have so maybe they can get away with full on contact drills. Let's face it the Steelers are known as one of the tougher teams in the NFL and they have the type of reputation the Esks used to have... a nasty one.
Even saying all of this every CFL team operates under the same rules so why do we have the worst tackling team? Is it just a case of having players with a tough mindset who want to go out there and beat someone up rather than "finesse" the opponent? It seems like our tackling on D is getting worse year on year under Kavis.
I'm just frustrated with the D and especially Marshall. He's been a disaster for the D and this team.
