    Brian Fryer...

Just saw Fryer interviewed on TSN. Figured I'd look up his stats.

    Career: 83 games, 173 receptions, 2670 yards, 7 TDs.

Never had a 1000 yard season...only twice was over 500 yards.

Could some of the grey hairs let me know why he is being inducted into the Hall because stats-wise....it seems pretty odd to me.

He shouldn't be in the cfl hall of fame if you aks me. He should be in the canadian hall of fame if it includes his college career and his time in the NFL.

I was thinking the same thing. Definitely not HOF stats.

He's being inducted as a college player, not for his time in the CFL.

Yes indeed. After all it is the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, not the CFL Hall of Fame.

            Notable Bryan Fryer highlights:

First 1000 yard receiving season in CIAU history
            Vanier Cup champion
Finished with the CIAU records for most receiving yards in a game, a season and a career, and the records for most receptions in a season and a career, and the most receiving touchdowns in a season
            2 time All Canadian
            2 time Hec Crighton nominee
Won the 1975 Hec Crighton (probably should've won the 1974 one....but the "awards are for seniors" crowd got in the way)
            8th round NFL Draft Pick
            Territorial Exemption in the CFL

He should eventually earn a spot in the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame too. Long time executive director of Football Alberta. Already in the University of Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.

              What were Fryer's NFL stats?

Only played in 4 regular season games due to injury. Returned 9 kicks for 166 yards in regular season play. Did more in the pre-season that earned him the roster spot. Knee injury ended his 1976 season and kept him out the entire 1977 season.

Thanks, Rids! I don't believe that NFL time should factor into whether someone gets into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and I think that it is pretty clear that Fryer's NFL time did not.

Totally agree with that. Being a CIAU athlete that was drafted into the NFL is a nice feather in the cap but should bring the attention back to the quality that was his time at University of Alberta.
