Reilly, the Good, the Bad, and the Better for Next Season

Like most, one can take nothing away from MR's guts, willingness to let it all hang out and his determination. Clearly has established himself as the leader of this squad on offense and he can make life difficult on defenses with his skill set. I'm glad he's our guy.

Once he gets healthy and starts working on his offseason program, I would hope that he spends time improving his weakest part of his game. Spotting

If I have any legit criticism of his game, he needs to hone his sights better as to where he delivers the ball, as too many times this year it was off target in terms of being slightly behind, or high, or in places where his receivers couldn't maximize the gains. Part of this is due to his mobility and at times not getting his feet right and part of this might be his mechanics as in shorter throwing situations he utilizes a pushing the ball motion by his ear as opposed to a more traditional over the top throwing motion. On longer passes he appears to switch up his motion to get more distance to something that looks more conventional. Where I see him struggle with spotting the most is the intermediate throws, that 15-25 yard pass where the windows in the middle of the field are tighter. His progression from good to elite will require that he cleans this part of his game up to get there.

Don't take this as sacrilege, but constructive criticism. The same way I said for years that RR needed to clean up his play action motion and to look off defenders better when he was here. He went to TO and Milanovich started working on fine tuning his game to the point that RR admitted to Matty in an interview that he wasn't really pushed to get better here.

We need to push MR to get to that next level because unlike RR, MR has that outward drive and the more we can work on fine tuning his mechanics and his sights, the more lethal he can become.

    Heal up quick Mike.

Agreed. With Bowman leading the league in YAC (last I saw), he's not absolutely terrible at it, but there's definitely room to improve. I think part of it is just being on the same page with his receivers.

One thing that might be forgotten at this point is just how well Reilly and Chambers worked together early in the season. Coehoorn took over that role and got better as the year went on, but I'm excited to see Reilly have 2-3 weapons to work with that he gels with. Him and Stamps never worked well together, but another offseason with Bowman, Chambers, Coehoorn, and Lawrence should yield exciting results, given that he works on the stuff you talked about.

It's not the timing per se but where the ball is placed when it's delivered. If he can work on that, then he can start getting himself in the conversation of elite status

Do the Esks have a QB coach to improve the QB's? I remember in BC they changed Casey Printer's throwing mechanics and it worked wonders (for a while).

How do we feel about Jarious as a coach?

I was surprised when it first happened. It hasn't been glaringly bad but I'm not sure he's 100% the best guy for the spot.

All the offensive coaches seem to work together well. This is the type of offense that you need time in the system to get the most out of it. I expect it to be more consistent next year and what a nice change to not have them learn another new offense around here.

Nailed it. Often our receivers end up catching the ball standing still down field for an immediate tackle instead of being able to catch on the run and keep running.

I think it comes down to having a bit more touch on the ball. It's all intertwined of course. There were times this season where I thought receivers...all of them...didn't adjust well to balls that were in the air. I guess I was just spoiled by some of the catches Tucker, Vaughn, and Stamps have made over the past 15 years...

Hard to hate Reilly, as a RIDER Fan, but his skill set keeps him prone to Injury. He couldn't last a full season in year 1 as a FT starter. I suspect he will be asked to tone down the part of his game that makes him so lethal (his running skills), so that he runs wisely and doesn't put himself in harms way. That said his future is bright. I still hate the rest of the Esks team, but Reilly is a guy I think all CFL fans can enjoy watching.

Re: Reilly, the Good, the Bad, and the Better for Next Season

My only big issue with Reilly is his clock management, or total lack of. The last two years if they get to a point they need to play the clock they just seem totally unaware of it out there. Fortunately it hasn't bit them in the ass in a big way yet... but one day it will, and the lack of situational awareness is troubling in a QB in particular

Other than that, there were issues with the offense as a whole and I'm not sure how much of that is directly on Reilly though. The play calling left a lot to be desired, and I think a lot of the issues stemmed from that. It kinda of flew under the radar to a point because the defense was just so damn good the offense didn't need to score, and between that and offenses were struggling league wide it wasn't as pronounced as it would have been otherwise. There were 3 or 4 games last in the regular season where they did look rather potent however, and gave me hope... unfortunately it reared it's ugly head again in the post season.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Another season with new OC and HC. It'll be great to see the offence as a whole, especially 13 and 30 get a real good full camp together again, and a whole off season with the same minds working together.

This is the type of offense that takes a lot of time and reps for everyone to think less and react instinctively. Keep the key parts together and over time it should get more efficient

Hey, guess who showed up? The mouthpiece. Ring a bell?

Diesel is the definition of white trash. He is straight from the trailer park. Lots of great posters on that site but he isn't one of em. I've heard a lot of stories about him from members of that site - he's got very little in terms of brain function goin on so I wouldn't take anything he says to heart. Not his fault he could barely finish his GED.

                            enjoy the offseason

Can't say I agree 100%........ I'm still far from sold on Macadoo as OC! We wasted some peoples skills and left ALOT of points out on the field with some VERY questionable play calling this year. The offensive coaches should most likely be all back next year so he better have his head out of his a$$ by then and be properly using the talent on the field.
