    Barnes Right on the Mark

I didn't notice this article on the boards but in the event I have missed it, and this has already been posted, please accept my apologies.

Good article by Barnes, basically outlining the very questions many posters have been asking for some time now. Throw me in with the camp which is in agreement with Barnes (those who believe this team will likey not go far in the playoffs if the status quo is maintained).
I am not trying to squash the optimism of Esks fans going into this playoff game but it needs to be said that those of us who question the direction of this club are no less a fan than those who blindly believe all will work out.

There is a lot of truth in what Barnes writes......certainly we have all been baffled by some of the decisions throughout the year.

Once again, those plays come from the sidelines.

You don't know what plays they call. Just because Ray outlets to an option three yards over the line of scrimmage, doesn't mean that player was the primary receiver. There are deep routes on many plays.

No no no,, don't you guys listen the coaches tell us that Calgary has a defense which takes away the deep ball, thus we are not allowed to even try.

He'd be looking downfield. He is never looking downfield for an open receiver.

No, I know what 'Nookster means...and you both have points.

If the play was called, you would think that RR would at least LOOK deep before he looked at his outlet, and he very rarely does, so 'Nookster is right. But Angelus is right in that RR tends to look shallow a HECK of a lot more than medium-to-deep, even when there is a medium pattern being run.

And so it's not really all that definitive whether it is playcalling or RR ......IMO it's a combination of both.

I saw Ray try a few deep balls last weekend, so obviously they are allowed to try to go deep. Ray's deep ball looked horrible.

Maas tossed a rocket into the endzone on his first drive.

Calgary's defense is good but we have the best recievers in the league! If you throw a deep ball with some mustard on it, our recievers will get enough separation to catch the pass without giving the D a chance of batting it down or picking it off. If you throw them a 40 yard floater the D will have more than enough time to get on the reciever break up the play.

If you have no deep ball you aren't going to score a great deal of points. So unless the Eskie defence allows less than 14 points......................
                      Our balls are bigger, eh.

Man, we suck. How we finished 11 - 7 is just beyond me. Good thing we had an easy schedule at the beginning, cause we only went 3 and 1 at the end against the best teams in the CFL.

                          Thank you.

RR's not standing back in the pocket looking deep. Burris did it all game. All his passes were deep. That is why Burris had so few completions.

Angelus can't debate without chucking an insult my way. But I know I am not alone.

It's impossible debating with someone who doesn't listen to reason and plays with voodoo dolls.

                              Look....

This is getting to be tiresome to read.

The reason RR does not throw deep is because the defense is taking the deep stuff away. The defenses are clogging the intermediate to deep middle of the field forcing RR to check off to the wide side out or to the back leaking out of the backfield.

This is the same strategy employed by defenses around the CFL to defend against Mc Manus who is also slow afoot and is fond of going downfield with his throws. The three man rush backed by a three-deep zone which sits back keeping everything in front of it forcing Mc Manus or RR top be patient by dinking and dunking all the way downfield...

The reason RR does not throw deep right now is simple-- The deep throws are not there!!!

                              Enough already!

The only way to get defenses to back off is to get the running game going again on first down (Tough to do when you are behind) which will force the linebackers to come back into the box up to play the run which will open up the seams and hooks a lot of you seem so fond of seeing Ricky throw...

                              Carry on.
