      Is that "Turd" singing?????

      "God save our gracious Gumby,
      Long live our noble Gumby,
      God save the Gumbs!

      "Send him victorious,
      Happy and glorious,
      Long to reign over us;
      God save the Gumby!"

      (moderate "PWI" .... my apologies)

              Holmes - Special Teams
              Makowsky - Line Man.

Two CFL awards out of 5
              8 Western All Stars.
Best rushing attack in the league. 5 years straight.

Cap abusers? Only if I was describing the Esks. Sadly, I'm not...

When they talked about Holmes for ST's award they mostly talked about his rushing and receiving. I think they factored that in and thats why he got the votes over Tompkins.

Let Holmes have the award. Tompkins is going to be playing for the only one that really matters on Sunday...

The Don weighs in on Award voting

Check out Don Matthews' take on the awards. Now while I'm glad to see that Allen did indeed win this year, I think there is considerable merit in what The Don says!
                      - - - -
Voters' picks a mystery to Matthews

                      CanWest News Service
                      Friday, November 25, 2005

VANCOUVER - Uh-oh. The Don is getting cranky. It must be closing in on game time.
And don't get Don Matthews started on award voting.
Asked yesterday whether it was a nice moment for Damon Allen to be able to stand up at the player awards' ceremony and be the face of the league, at age 42, for the first time in a 21-year career, the Montreal coach said: "You know what? If you choose him for his play, not for all the things he's done in the past, then it's a valid award. If you choose him for all that he's done in the past, then it's not a valid award.
"And you know what, voters: let your conscience be your guide."
You think the media voted for the story, Don?
"It doesn't matter what I think," he said. "Everybody votes their conscience. If you voted for the award on the basis of what he did this year, and you feel good about your vote, then good. But if you voted on it as a lifetime achievement award, then say that.
"I happen to think A.C. [Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo] had a pretty darn good year."
The judgement of voters, he said, is an ongoing mystery.
Warren Moon did not win the outstanding player award in any of the five-in-a-row Grey Cup years of the Edmonton Eskimos, but he won it in 1983, the first year in seven the Esks did not go to the Grey Cup.
"And you know what, I'm not a Hugh Campbell fan," said Matthews -- an understatement, there -- "but the Eskimos won five Grey Cups in a row and he won Coach of the Year once! And I took over a 4-14 team, went 15-3 [with the 1996 Argos] and won the Grey Cup, and did not win the Coach of the Year. Ron Lancaster did. I mean, 4-14 to 15-3, that's not a good deal?
"And I won in a year [1994] when Dave Ritchie won the Grey Cup, and I thought he should have won it."
                      Turf Toe:
                      - "...turf toe is a common malady that is more of a nuisance than a serious injury."
                      - "Turf toe can often progress into a chronic problem..."
                      - "A mild instance of turf toe (grade 1) can be merely aggravating while a serious case (grade 3) can be debilitating."

I don't think there's much doubt that voters treated this one like a "Lifetime Achievement Award" for Damon. Sure he had a good year, but there weren't a lot of spectacular individual performances this year to choose from.

Matthews makes some good points and often the results confuse us - this was really true this year with the All-stars .... Elijah Thurmon????

Too me the most confusing thing is the "timing" of the voting for both players and Coach of the Year

Is the player vote only for regular season?

The coach of the year isn't announced until Feb the following year .... but when is the actual vote?

The results will differ depending on whether you consider reg season only ... or include playoffs .... and for Coach .... the Grey Cup

                            ?????

When you have Nealon Greene at the controls, you had better have one of the best rushing attacks because there sure as hell won't be a passing attack.
