This time last week I was going out of my mind. Lest we Forgot.

I was reading the articles online and this stood out:

    MCMANUS'S $250,000-PLUS SALARY

The thing I don't get about this deal is why in the world the Eskimos would want Danny McManus and his $250,000-plus salary?

"Insurance,'' said LeLacheur. "He could work with both Ricky and Jason Johnson.''

Edmonton develops quarterbacks. The Eskimos have been the official quarterback supplier to the CFL for years. It's a long and impressive list. So develop another Ricky Ray and another Jason Maas. Why have an old, used (and previously abused in this city) quarterback come here who won't get a single snap in the regular season unless Ray gets hurt?

And hands up, anybody, who thinks Old Man McManus could come off the bench breathing fire like Maas did in the playoff to save the day for Ricky Ray?

It makes no sense to me unless the Eskimos are bringing him here to cut him like they did with Khari Jones last year.

-- couldn't they use that money for more wisely?

I agree, I don't think the Eskimos can afford that for the 3rd string QB. Even the Esks have a limit. We need to spend some money on some O-linemen.

I sure hope they're planning on re-negotiating McManus' contract...

This is part of the development of QB's. McManus will be useful on the sidelines.

I think we will be keeping him nut just cutting him like Jones , well unless he teaches Ray everything he knows by then .... IMO I'd expect the Esks to rework his contract and keep him on for the season. But then again , we have money to spare

This is doing a favour for a buddy kind of a thing, no question in my mind. We'd be better served by having a young 1st year out of college kind of guy rather than McManus but who knows it might work out.

This has to be a temporary thing. Look for Danny Mac to retire prior to the season and announce his "new" career in broadcasting. ...........a wise and equally lucrative choice.

                        Hmmm..quite possibly.

                        Is his salary confirmed?

Nothing says we have to keep him for next year (ala Khari).

McManus should be willing to take a paycut, based on his limited role and the fact that few other teams would be willing to use his services at this point in his career. Thus, he doesn't have much as much leverage as the Esks' brass does in this respect, so they should try to reduce his salary to free up some money.

I didn't think we had to trade for him as we could have got him for almost nothing before training camp next year. I would have preferred another warm body instead.

McManus can always be cut and then work as a coach and emergency starter. I doubt any team will pick him up.

Maybe he just wanted to retire as an Eskimo. I hear our pension plan is second to none.
