Points scored 14,17,19,22,23,14,18,10 = Avg of 17.125 points per game. For a team with supposidely alot of weapons those are anything but dominant numbers.

They can't finish it off in the Red Zone...and CC is being far too predictable and conservative.Originally posted by BeerfishPoints scored 14,17,19,22,23,14,18,10 = Avg of 17.125 points per game. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

That's what happens when you don't have a running game.Originally posted by BeerfishPoints scored 14,17,19,22,23,14,18,10 = Avg of 17.125 points per game. For a team with supposidely alot of weapons those are anything but dominant numbers.
It doesn't matter how good your QB and recievers are, without a balanced attack, you're not going to be effective. These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Re: Eskimos last 8 regular season games:
The problem is the play-calling. It works when you're driving down the field, you can pick up 10-15 yards a play effeciently because the defense is backed off and trying prevent the big play. But when you get to the red zone, the field tightens up, and the defense is backed off and still in position to cover the 10-15 yard pass. Also since we are used to passing, it's hard to pull a running game out of nowhere to punch it in. It's probably easier to score from the 20 than it is from the 10. I don't blame it on Ricky or Davis....but Maciocia. It's a quick fix...

Um......we had Troy Davis at the end of last season.Originally posted by earl2That's what happens when you don't have a running game.

Re: Eskimos last 8 regular season games:
THe Problem, folks, is the O-line.
They can pass block adequately, but they need a number of games to get the nuances of the running game down. Too many rookies pressed into action. I stated before that they needed some time to all get on the same page together. That hasn't happened yet.(I was pooh-pooohed, only JCR believed me, and he was pooh-poohed, but I digress)
Without the blocking up front, play action and any other plays aren't going to matter. Besides with Play action you have to ESTABLISH the run before the defences tighten up to stop it. The Eskimos haven't established a running game, yet, to use play action.
Hence Ricky Rays Insane passing numbers.
And it get worse, BC is coming to town and they have a great offense. Putting a lot of pressure on the eskimo defenseLast edited by terencius; 07-02-2006, 11:22 PM.

Re: Eskimos last 8 regular season games:
The problem with the running game is the Esks cannot score early and almost never blow teams away. If you look at players that have hug rushing games I'd wager most of them their team builds a solid lead early. If you do not play with the lead and soften up the defense a bit you just don't run the ball.

Re: Eskimos last 8 regular season games:
DAVIS IS AVERAGING 5.6 YDS PER CARRY. VEry good, but wouldn't it be nice to see 3.5 to 4 on about 40 carries rather than 15?? Burris has run the ball more than Davis has...
We need to establish the run EARLY. The Esks are obviously again a little pass happy...and compounding the issue by getting behind. Even BC runs the ball more, that is embarrassing.

actually you said that they were brutal and would require 2-3 import starters....it was the regular fans here that rebuked your speculation and said that while there would be growing pains, that in time they'd be just fine.....Originally posted by terenciusTHe Problem, folks, is the O-line.

Pass blocking is much more difficult than run blocking, and so far Ricky has been hit and sacked less than at almost anytime last year. Growing pains for thee run game, but it will improve.....as predicted by those in the know....Before you insult a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you insult him, you'll be a mile away, and have his shoes.
