The official, Get The Ball To Hervey thread

I know we've all been talking about this off an on over the past season or two and Jed this week made some great comments about how we are woefully mis-using Ed's abilities, but what is it going to take for CC and RR to repay all the hard work that Swerve does in practice and in games week in and week out? He is unquestionably a huge team leader and never complains but you NEED to reward a guy like that by giving him the opportunity to make plays and contribute to the offence and CC/RR just aren't doing that right now.

If not for Ed's track meet he ran last night, Tucker wouldn't have been open on those two nice catches. You would only have notcied if you watched his route or on film how Ed opened up the underneath and allowed Tuck to get single coverage.

When Ed is involved in our offence that's when we are at our explosive best. The riders db's tonight knew they weren't coming his way and left him in single man coverage most of the night yet we didn't exploit that?????

Turn our speed demon loose! Free Ed Hervey!

I couldn't agree more. Last night, as I was watching the game, I couldn't stop thinking about how Hervey was being ignored. Even when we do use him, he is poorly utilized, especially in the case of those three-yard passes. We need to use him a lot more to stretch defenses and even to hit him in stride so that he can run for big gains, similar to the way that Geroy Simon makes a lot of his catches.

When he is contributing on offence it hampers the defences' ability to double up on Tucker and mookie making them even more dangerous.

Not to mention that teams are not respecting his speed as much as they should, the defender was all over Hervey on a couple of his shorter routes. Even without going for strictly the Bomb they have to get him the ball at least 15-20 down field other than the 5 yard stuff all the time.

Yeah, but he would have actually edited your post.

Ed is open all the time.

The one time he wasn't last night was on the 2nd down play to the endzone (the first one). RR was looking at him but he was being tugged to the ground. So Ray switched to Mookie and Mookie didn't make the catch.

I was sure PI was going to be called.

I would love to see Hervey get the ball so he can use his speed.

But honestly, I'm really wondering if he hasn't lost a step. I'm thinking maybe the reason he's not being used deep is because he's not stretching the D anymore. I can't imagine any coaching staff in the universe not using Hervey deep if he was able to get deep. I hope I'm wrong, but my guess is that the past few seasons of injuries are catching up to him.

I see Hervey open all the time. He returns to the huddle with his head down. I don't think he has missed a step, RR is not looking at him.
