Hate to say it, but the days of rexall having the best ice in the league are long gone. The ice so far this season is far below Edm standards as the pucks bounce like crazyand there's excessive snow buildup. I've noticed it each and every game at home this year. Time for a new ice plant and another reason why we need a new building.

Re: Our ice sucks
I believe the owners group has been trying to get enough money to get a new ice plant installed, but with prospects of a new rink they may be holding off.
you are right though, the puck has been bouncing a lot this season, i suspect the extra work the ice plant got last summer might also have something to do with it.

Re: Our ice sucks
They are still freezing the pucks before they use them, right?
I agree - the ice isn't as good as it used to be. IMO one of the reasons is because Rexall has become more of a multipurpose venue - there are more events there than there were say 20 years ago, I would think.
If we do get a new rink, I hope Rexall stays put and stays open - hold all the non-ice stuff there, and keep the new building strictly for hockey - Oilers and WHL, if desired.

Re: Our ice sucks
Ice in most rinks is bad... I've played on Rexall, probably the worst ice in the city.
Logically it makes sense, with those lights beaming down on the ice it's hard to imagine that it's nice to skate on. Apparently there's some new technology (de-humidifiers, I believe?) that are really improving the ice in a lot of rinks though.
Hopefully we'll see them in Edmonton."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

Concerts and the like are who arena's pay for themselves. I am not saying I am in favor, or opposed to demoloshing Rexall, simply saying that hockey alone will not pay for a new building!Originally posted by gizmo fan 2They are still freezing the pucks before they use them, right?

Keep Rexall for the next time Dora wants to come to town while the Oil are in the playoffs!
