No changes to NHL points system

    Still 2 points win.

1 point OT or shootout loss

    0 points regulation loss.

Lou Lamoriello is missing the point. If it's BETTER to have an OT loss than a Regulation loss -- as evidenced by the fact that you get a point for making it to OT -- then by using the SAME LOGIC shouldn't a "regulation win" be better than a OT/SO win?

He talks about parity...well, duh! When you award points for OT/SO losses then of COURSE you will have closer races!

NHL GMs say no to three-point wins

NAPLES, Fla. (CP) - The NHL's point system will stay the same, at least for next season, after general managers gave a universal thumbs down to the idea of three-point victories Wednesday.

''We've got some exciting races in both conferences,'' said Devils GM Lou Lamoriello. ''The parity is great. Why change anything? I think we've had too much change of late. It's a good game, let's enjoy it.''

The league's 30 GMs wrapped up three days of meetings where the trade talk was more prevalent than the actual league agenda. The league's trade deadline is Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET.

''I have a better sense of the market now as I head home,'' said Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland. ''The prices remain too high. Whether or not we'll be willing to pay that price next Tuesday at the deadline remains to be seen.''

Yeah, I really wish that they went to the 3 point system... it makes so much more sense to have the same amount of points awarded every game, instead of some being 2 and some being 3. I wouldn't have a problem with going back to 2 points where winner gets 2, loser gets 0, a tie results in both teams getting a point. Of course you would have to get rid of the shootout, but the media and a lot of fans love it (especially in the states), so there is no way that will happen.
