    Ever read Moneyball?

    Angelus, you must have.

Surely both of you agree that there are guys out there who do everything right. They're big. They're strong. They're fast. They're tough.

    Yet they're terrible hockey players.

Greene (and I like him - I really thought he'd take a step or two forward this year) is looking like he's that guy. The game is just FAR too fast for him right now. Add in his shattered psyche... it's just not looking promising.
I agree with Diesel and Angelus on this one. Greene is playing far too many difficult minutes for a kid, and he's doing alright. He's not perfect, but IMO his game has improved drastically since Christmas. I see him as a long term #4 defenceman for this team. I wouldn't be in a hurry to trade him. Obviously the Oilers have a glut of young unproven d-men, but IMO Greene will (and should) be around for a long time.
These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Young, unproven, d-men that will be bargains in a few years, giving us the billions that a new goaltender will cost in a few years.
I officially retract my vote for DDS as Prime Minister. He's clearly incompetent.

Shame is, I wouldn't be surrpised if he's dealt in the Summer - by my eye, we have to get rid of two of Grebeshkov, Smid, Greene and Gilbert... Greene and Gilbert seem like the easiest to move of those 4 for several reasons.
No chance Gilbert or Greene are moved this off-season. Write it down.

Matt Greene and Tom Gilbert are UFA's in 3 seasons.

            Really? How so?

Greene is RFA this summer, and Gilbert is RFA next summer. How do they get UFA status in 3 years? Both are 23.

EDIT: I get it now. The lockout year is counted as an accrued service year.

              Wanna fix your edit? =D

They'll both be 27 in that summer. Gilbert turned 24 in January and Greene will turn 24 in May.

Under the new CBA starting next summer (not this summer, I believe..) UFA age is 7 years or 27 years old, whichever comes back.

It's basically why I could care less if the Oilers ever drafted a defenseman again.

                Thanks, I will fix that.

However, to be a UFA at 27, a players needs 4 years accrued service. Gilbert can be UFA in 2010. So you're right, 3 more seasons after this one.

The 27 year old line starts in 08-09.
