    Edm vs Chicago

These comentators are putting my to sleep.

Pretty cool to see Toewns and Kane ( both rookies and like 18 playing on the first line together ,and i thought playing young rookies on the top line was evil )

Stoll - Torres - Storini line is horrible. Even the commentators are saying this...

We are 30th at 5v5 , while Chicago is 28th - yet they are 5th in the conference... cant be coaching can it

Before the shootout... and what's left of the Whiskey , ruin my perception, a few quick points...

Hemsky, outside of the braindead turnover that resulted in the first Chicago goal, had an absolutely spectacular game. Horcoff was his usual self, and Penner showed several signs of life.

Grebeshkov played a very, very, good game in limited minutes tonight, and stepped up his game after the Tarnstrom injury. Gilbert, once again, was the best defenseman on the team.

I'm starting to think Steve Staios is injured.

The ice sucked ass tonight, as was painfully obvious on Horcoff's missed chance where the puck took a foot jump a half second before it reached his stick, and Staios nearly scoring on Roli behind the net. This NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

Brodziak needs to put one of his million chances in the net.

I absolutely LOVED Pitkanen's game tonight. Loved it. This is his second game back from an injury, and he looked fantastic. Active in the rush, a strong stick and excellent positioning. I know I said Gilbert was the best Oiler D, and I stand by it... but Pitkanen is going to be a player.

.... WTF GAGNER. That was nucking futs.

Suck on that Kane. You shouldn't have been allowed to shoot anyway.

Here comes Hemsky... he's been absolute money this year. Damn. I jinxed him. Nice poke check by Khabibulan.

Perreault? Figured it'd be Toews here, if not Lang. .... that was pretty funny.

Should be Horcoff... and it is. Good stuff. Hope he shoots, but a backhand fivehole move wouldn't surprise me....

    BOOM!~

      Oilers win!

That was a strange game to watch. The Oilers dominated early, had their usual second period nap, but rebounded well in the third.
And is Gagner ever freaking amazing on the shoot-out. I wonder, however, before goalies realize he keeps making that same move.

I pretty much agree with PDO's analysis of this game. Grebashkov/Gilbert/Pitkanen all impressed the hell out of me tonight. Smid was solid as well. Staois seems to be trying to hard out there.
If I'm MacTavish, I don't know what the hell to do with Torres/Stoll. Stoll's game has improved somewhat from the start of the season, but he's nowhere near what he should be. And Torres looks absolutely lost.
I thought Reasoner/Brodziak/Sanderson looked really strong, except for a couple of times where they really got running around in the defensive zone.
Horcoff/Hemsky/Penner was solid. I thought Penner was a monster tonight. If there was any justice, he would have scored in OT after that great effort.

        Open question:
What do you think the Oilers could reasonably expect to get if they traded Stoll. No package deals, but what is he worth right now?

I think he is more valuable to us than he would be on the market to someone else.

            Probably.
            But that wasn't the question...

****... I just had a long reply, and it disappeared for no apparent reason. That was strange... ****.

I think Jarret Stoll has a lot of value around the league, and I think it is higher than he is value is in regards to his actual on ice value.

I think of the teams that would be interested in him, Philly, Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus, Dallas, NYI, Phoenix, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, and Washington would be the teams that would come knocking.

Of possible deals from there that would interest the Oilers in which they ONLY gave up Stoll? Honestly, I'm not sure there are very many, especially considering that the Oilers can only take one contract back in any trade that they make, as they are at the 50 max. I think Stoll would be a huge part of a package if he were to be dealt... something like Stoll + Pouliot/Jacques/Schremp/Nilsson + A young D not named Pitkanen or Gilbert.

I think, given that Philly is looking for a defensive center (and, though I don't think Stoll is spectacular defensively, he has the rep), that a Stoll for Carter deal wouldn't be impossible. Oilers would probably have to add a pick to the deal, but I think it makes a huge amount of sense, especially for the Oilers, moving forward. I think one of Horcoff or Stoll is gone within the next couple of years... and Horcoff is clearly superior, and I'm biased , so I hope he's the guy... a guy like Carter could eat up the soft minutes, help out with the size issue, and help on the PP.

Any deal with Atlanta would involve their 1st round pick... and a little bit more, but I'm not very familiar with their prospect pool. I think Atlanta is dying for a guy they can sell as a #1 guy, and they would point at his point totals in 05-06 to undeducated fans who wouldn't know they were bloated by extreme PP time.

I think a deal with Nashville could be worked out, as they need a second line center in the worst way... Weber and Suter are both RFA's next season, and will be looking for raises... I can see a 1 for 1 deal with either of them, though I think it's more likely that the Oilers add one of their young D not named Gilbert/Pitkanen in order to make it work.

I don't think Dallas or CBJ have the assets to meet the Oilers needs.

I'm also on the same boat with NYI/Phoenix/St. Louis, as I imagine all of them will want their 1st round picks to stay in their hands.

Tampa Bay and Washington are both interesting options though, albeit for different reasons.

Tampa Bay is reportedly shopping Richards, and I think a deal of Stoll+ would certainly be a starting point. Obviously the + would be huge, in the mold of perhaps Roli, JDD, Greene and Schremp/Nilsson, but I think a deal like that COULD be of interest to a team that needs goaltending, depth at all levels, and to cut salary.

Washington is a team that just needs to make some noise, badly. I think we could pick up a very good prospect from them (Fehr?) and their 1st.

Right now, I'm liking how our forward lines look. Except for Torres/Stoll/Stortini. I'm thinking the Oilers wait until Pisani gets back, put him with Stoll/Torres and give Pisani enough games to feel comfortable. And hope like hell they can hold their own out there.

Stoll by himself I don't think will garner a lot of interest. He will have to be packaged. I think it would be great to get Richards from Tampa; if we trade Roli, Torres, and Stoll all at once to Tampa we could probably afford him...

Seriously, though, I think we have to be careful about which of our "farmers" we trade. IIRC we used to have Paul Statsny in our possession, but traded him to Colorado and look at how we screwed ourselves out of a great player.

We could have drafted Stastny, but took Cogs and Chorney instead. He was never Oiler property.

Jeeze, another SO win. Oh well, a wins a win. Didn't watch much of the game because it was kind of boring early on especially with the announcers as E4E pointed out.

So am I, did anyone hear MacT's definition of the goal? He was thinking he was going to run out of time making all those moves.

Officiating was fine, but what about that puck drop with 11 seconds to go? The Oilers weren't even lined up. I guess the linesman apologized to MacT and stated he thought the Oilers had more than 11 seconds on the PP and thus more time to get the puck down the ice.

As well, did anyone see the two Rider fans who were cuffed and thrown out during the second intermission? I wonder if they can watch the game from their jail-cell? They were drunk as skunks being dragged out of the building and they were still yelling "Go Riders Go." The cops had to drag/carry them out, personally I think the should have been tasered since they were resisting.
