    Oilers @ Wings

Oilers win 4-3 in a shoot-out....I'm impressed, especially because how well Detroit has been playing. We're now 9-1 in the shoot-out....Hemsky had the winner by the way.

I hate winning in shoot-outs so much, but a win is a win....and I really wasn't expecting much today playing the league's best team. So, I don't think there is anything to be unhappy about.

Only thing is that this team needs to figure out how to win a game without going to a shootout. But its a great start and this team is looking a lot better than they did last season.

We gotta stop giving that point to our opponents, we play so many games against Western teams that it makes it hard to gain ground 1 point at a time.

The shootout wins likely aren't sustainable... they're a coinflip. But every year it seems one or two teams just gets really hot with one goal wins and shootout wins... maybe this is the Oilers year of luck.

        One question though:

Sheldon Souray was on the ice for a minute, Detroit pressing. Oilers get the puck...

And he breaks down the ice, looking for a breakaway pass, and Detroit gets another scoring opportunity.

What in the blue hell was going on his head? Nearly blew the game seconds before the shootout...

That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

He's an offensive-minded defenseman.....Pitkanen does it all the time.

I think Pitkanen could lap Souray in a one lap race.

And unless the guy is Bobby Freakin' Orr, there's not a defenseman in the league that should be trying to get a breakaway after a minute long shift by flying the zone like that. Hell, the list of FORWARDS who should try that is nearly non-existent.

Souray is so so defensively at the best of times, he was pretty lousy in his own end this even but that is something you have to live with. Big win for the Oilers. Last year and the year before I dreaded shootouts, this year I look forward to them.

Uh, the dude just got back after not playing for a few months. Mind giving him a few games to get his game back in shape? Or should we trade him...

I officially retract my vote for DDS as Prime Minister. He's clearly incompetent.

I agree, 6-16 in regulation... yikes
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

                      Hows this for a spin?

We can't win during regulation but when we hit SO we are almost unstopable. Whats different between regulation and SO? Well there is no coaching in the SO and the players are free to use their talent and skill

But with such a young team, I'm looking for the Oilers to compete this year. I don't expect them to be world beaters or even make the playoffs. The fact that they are in almost every game (that's not against the Avs) is reason to smile. This team has a lot of players that are going to kick a lot of ass for us in the coming years.

I can only drool over the idea that the Oilers might someday have a coach who runs a decent system and doesn't abandon the forecheck, and doesn't throw goalies under the bus for letting a tip-in goal when playing with the flu.....

2nd game back after missing 25 maybe? He also has two points in those games.
