    Gagner named to YoungStars event

Good see this kid being recognized. I would have thought that Cogliano might get a better look. If they could have only picked one, I would have gone with Cogliano, just because he plays more then Gagner. Gagner gets the press because of the SO.

Cogs probably deserved a nod as well, but how can you pass up a kid whose name means 'win' in french.

And for his next trick he'll do the shoot-out blindfolded - like Ceballos did in the dunk contest and still score
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

They are judging the shot out this year. I wonder if they are going to let the kids participate? These kids seem to have the better moves any way.

The real miss here is Tom Gilbert....

AFAIK, he's on his first contract, and thus eligible. The guy is playing on the first pairing, and on pace 12 goals and 16 assists and a +12, with almost all of his points coming at even strength and minimal PP time.

Congrats to Gagner, who, for an 18 year old is doing fantastically.

Agree, Gilbert is the real deal.

I agree on Gilbert...but seeing as it appears they're going 3-on-3 (didn't it used to be 4 a side?), I'm not surprised - there aren't enough defence spots.

Congrats to Gagner, and I think Cogs could've been there too. Then again, considering they only took one 'Hawk and left Toews out, I guess they have to be somewhat fair.

Gilbert may be the eventual steak.......but for the time being with all the attention and the focus the NHL is trying to put on the game with a shootout competition (and how seriously lame the youngstars game was last year)......Gagner is the sizzle right now.....

True, it is 3v3 for some idiotic reason.... Toews is injured, for the record.

The D taken in the west are:

                    Edler, Johnson, Johnson and Niskanen.

Niksanen: 5-17-47, +14, 19:07 / night, most common partner: Zubov.
                    E. Johnson: 3-16-31, +10, 16:45 / night, most common partner: McKee/Jackman
                    J. Johnson: 1-7-47, -7, 20:40 / night, most common partner: Modry/Blake
                    Edler: 2-10-38, +18, 19:39 / night, most common partner: Mitchell/Ohlund/Weaver

I'm not all that convinced anyone there, outside of Niskanen, should've been there over Gilbert.

Ah, good to know. Do we play Chicago any time soon, then?

Yeah, I agree. I'd make the argument that the league wants to try and get guys in from as many teams as possible, but then that doesn't explain the two Blues.

Gilbert doesn't have name appeal outside of Edmonton. I can understand why they went with Gagner as he's had headlines around the league.

                        Congrats to Sam!

As I said when I started this thread. Gagner is going because of what he has done in the shoot out. Cogliano has better stats (19 points versus 16) and plays in way more situations then Gagner (PP, SH, and 5-5). I honestly never really tought of Gilbert going, but the more I think about it he would have been a very good choice as well.
