    The slim to none chance of making the playoffs improved slightly with this news

    Canucks' Morrison out; Luongo leaves team

    The Vancouver Canucks' postseason hopes have taken some hits today.

    Forward Brendan Morrison is done for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs after suffering a torn ACL, and star goaltender Roberto Luongo has left the club to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.

    Morrison, 32, has battled injuries all season and missed significant time (38 games) after having wrist surgery in mid-December. He had nine goals and 16 assists over his 38 games this season.

    It had been expected that Luongo would be leaving the team, but the Canucks are unsure when he will return. Even if the baby is born on Thursday, the Canucks are not certain he will be able to make Friday's important game against the Minnesota Wild.


    The Canucks currently sit in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They have 86 points and are two back of the seventh place Colorado Avalanche. The Canucks are two points up on the ninth place Nashville Predators and three points ahead of the Edmonton Oilers.
    The Oil still have to win out from here on in, but this may give them a shot at catching Vancouver if they do.

      Especially with Nashville's schedule......

      The Oilers are screwed about as much as my Leafs since the loss to Boston the other night.....

        the difference being the Leafs never really had a chance while the Oilers did. Even so, neither team could've made it in just by running the table at the end. Both needed a lot of 'help' from other teams.
        Turf Toe:
        - "...turf toe is a common malady that is more of a nuisance than a serious injury."
        - "Turf toe can often progress into a chronic problem..."
        - "A mild instance of turf toe (grade 1) can be merely aggravating while a serious case (grade 3) can be debilitating."

            uh......Jack, if they had won the other night they would have been only 2 points back with 5 to go and one more against the team they were chasing.

              After Tuesday night they certainly have the best shot now of any team on the outside looking in.....

              Order those Ovechkin jammies now if you haven't already.....

                        no I meant the Leafs. They haven't been exactly unstoppable, while the Oilers looked like they had a legit run going.

                        The Leafs were a couple of points out of 9th with some possibilities to get into the playoffs.
                        The Oilers were a couple of points out of 8th with some possibilities to lock that up.

                        In the end it matters not one bit. They're both toast sadly.

                          Both teams have been hot recently.......they've basically been matching hot streaks and cold streaks all year long.

                            After the loss last night the Oilers have a slim to none chance of making the playoffs. All this did was keep slim in town for another game or 2. The Preds have the The Jackets, then the Wings and close with 2 against the Blues and a game against the Hawks. They have the much easier sched down the stretch (only play one playoff team who could have things wrapped in terms of best record in the conference by then).

                              I would just to point out, that although the Oilers still have a slight chance, the Leafs have been officially eliminated from contention.
