We just dealt Pitkanen for a year of Cole because of it.

Good question. I think it would be far too early to guess on that kind of thing as I'm sure all this depends on how he does this year.

The only chance we have of locking up Cole long-term is by doing it right now. The closer the season comes, the closer he gets to UFA. Once the season starts, it's over. He might not even be an Oiler by the trade deadline...

If this was a 1 for 1 deal the Oilers got FLEECED!

Hard to believe it's not 1 for 1 at this point.

Cole is a player... but we're not signing him, he's American, and he's headed towards a pay day. I just don't see any reason why he's still an Oiler a year from today.

That is a lot of assumptions. You may be right, or maybe not. However it is not fair to say he will be gone 1 year from today, or by the trade deadline, like this is a forgone conclusion. For all we know Cole's stint as an Oiler could be 2 days, he could be moved again on Thursday, or he could finish his career in an Oiler uniform, who really knows at this point, time will tell.

Both of these guys are going to UFAs next year as I can not see Pitkanen signing for more then a year this year unless Carolina throws some big money at him (which they have not really done in the past). So for me that is a wash. It also provides more scoring down the lineup as I see him on the second or third line.

I'm really liking Cole's interview on the Team right now. He sounds like a pretty smart guy.

If they get him signed for 3 years + then good deal. If they don't, then disastrous deal.

Torres says that getting benched was one of the best things that ever happened to him in regards to a wakeup call.

RAYCROFT signs in Colorado to replace Theodore, who bolted to Washington....

MacT is supposedly excited about other moves in the works, and told Cole just as much.
