LLOYDMINSTER – Alberta has won the battle of the centennial provinces with a 7-5 victory over Saskatchewan in a hockey game played in Lloydminster Thursday night.
The game between some of the best junior hockey players in the country, all born in one of the two provinces, went on despite a power outage that hit the city.
A big factor in the Team Alberta win was Lee Zalasky, a four-year Western Hockey League veteran and Lloydminster native, who had two goals and an assist and won a flat-screen TV for being team MVP.
Team Saskatchewan's MVP was Dan DaSilva, who had a goal and two assists.
It game was part of celebrations to commemorate the 100th birthdays of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Proceeds from the game are going to the WHL education fund, the Hockey Alberta Foundation and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association Legacy Fund.
