    Linus Omark's shootout goal in his first NHL game sealed Edmonton's 4-3 win over Tampa Bay on Friday night.

    Some of the Lightning players didn't appreciate the goal.

    "A ... joke," Bolts winger Ryan Malone was quoted as telling reporters after the game.

    "It's embarrassing for him," said goalie Dan Ellis, who was in the Tampa Bay net for the goal. "You come into a league, a respectful league like this, and you try a little move like that. It's not a very classy thing. That's just the kind of person he is."

    Bolts star Steven Stamkos told the Edmonton Sun: "I didn't think it showed a lot of respect in this game. I mean, you don't see Crosby or Ovechkin doing that and they're the two best players in the game. [Omark's] a creative player, he's got good skill. I'm not taking that away from him, but it didn't really have any implication on his moves, so I don't know why he did that."

    In case you didn't hear - Stamkos this evening did a spin move right in front of the goaile.

    So this move by Stamkos shows how great he is while Omark showed how disrespectful he is ? Love the ass kissing pundits.

        I applaud both guys for their spinerama moves.

        It has brought some color to an increasingly dull Gary Bettman product.

                The difference is that Stamkos did his to score the goal while Omark did his to showboat.

                      As much as both of those moves look good, I am wondering how legal they are. On a penalty shot the puck must be kept moving towards the goal. I know in Stamko's case last night, it was very close to stopping. I do not think that any ref would actually blow it down (the fans would go nuts and he would be looking for job after the season), but if they are going to call the rules then they do have a close a look at it. I personally have no problem with either moves. It livens up the game and gets the NHL into other homes, as it ends up on YouTube. Lets face it how many of us had herad of Omark, before his youtube goal in Europe?

                        It should have been much ado about nothing, if Stamkos and his team would have just shut up about it after they lost. They are the ones that made something out of it, which make them hippocrites now.

                        I disagree that Omark's spin was showboating. Yes, the spin happened further out, but it was unexpected and froze Ellis and was enough to throw him off for when the fake slap came. Who knows, maybe it intimidated him a little bit, too. Anyway you slice it, it contributed to the overall play, which was a goal. Would he have scored without the spin? Maybe, maybe not, but we'll never know now.

                        Fact is, they were both great goals, and the league needs more of it (at least if we're stuck with shootouts, but that is a different issue). What the league doesn't need is losing teams whining about there needing to be a "code of respect" for young players that saps excitement from the game, only to turn around and do it themselves 2 weeks later.

                            It is... but Omark's move absolutely had an impact on the goal.

                              There is nothing wrong with what Stamkos did, just as there was nothing wrong with Omark's move. Omark's was more showboating but it did have an impact on him scoring the goal. Stamko et al whined because Omark got the game-winning goal with those moves. The other thing is that Stamkos is a vet and Omark is a rookie. They think that matters as you should pay your dues before showing off (which Omark definitely was trying to do) but it doesn't matter to me one bit. Your objective is to score, which Omark did. Beyond that, who cares?
