Pretty hilarious we have to wait until 2012-13 to play Winnipeg at Rexall.

They are stuck in the SE Division until the re-alignment. We saw ATL here last year (Halls great hat-trick game).

Every team needs to do a home and away with every other team. Jeez, what will it take for the NHL to realize that this needs to happen?

I absolutely agree. Maybe next year after the re-alignment and division shuffles, this will happen.

I do not understand why Winnipeg could not have gone into the Central Division and then move NAshville down to the SOutheast (closet team to the other teams in the southeast) They could have given NAshville Atlanta's schedule (with some modifications for arena availablity), and Winnipeg could have had Nashville's (There really is no worry about scheduling in Winnipeg). Then next year redo the divisions to have Winnipeg with Edmonton, Vancouver, and Calgary.

I agree, but I can see why they didn't do it this year. Schedules are worked on a year in advance, what with arena availability (concerts, major events like CFR/WJC, other sports, etc.), coherent road trips, back-to-backs, etc. There wasn't time to swap conferences around when WPG was finalized.

When it came out, I'd proposed something similar (NSH to SE, MIN to CEN, WPG to NW)...but it sounds like they might go to 4 divisions next year. Don't see how that would work.

For matchups, the NHL should take a page out of the NBA's book.

NBA does:
Home-and-home with other conference (30 games).
4 games with division opponents (16 games).
82-46 = 36...play 6 conference opponents 4 times and the remaining four 3 times.

What I REALLY think they should do is:
30 games vs other conference, 16 games vs division, 30 vs rest of conference (3 vs each team...host one other division twice one year, and the other twice the next year) for 76 games. Yes, it takes 6 games out of the season...but the season drags on too bloody long anyways, IMO.
(Unless you want to ADD games for six vs divisional opponents and/or four vs conference opponents.)

But that's with this alignment...once they change it, who knows what the heck will happen.

Also, the Coyotes might be in a different city next year, so they didn't want to re-align then re-align again.

i love the fact the October schedule is not a bunch of games against the damn Flames!

Crosby and Ovechkin in the 1st month of the season, that's awesome.
