Oilers will take a peek at Lindros

The Edmonton Oilers inquired about Eric Lindros two seasons ago and there's a chance they will again now that the New York Rangers have decided not to pick up an option on him. Lindros, 31, who spent three seasons on Broadway, is on the market as an unrestricted free agent today because the Rangers declined a $10.25-million option.
"We'd probably look into it, but that would be due diligence on our part," said GM Kevin Lowe yesterday. "Our priority is to get a centre, and Petr Nedved is our first priority."
As reported yesterday, Lowe has begun talks on a multi-year deal for Nedved, whose option for $5 million wasn't picked up by the Oilers. Even so, Lindros holds mild intrigue.
Despite his well-documented concussion problems, the last one coming in January on a hit by Jason Doig that ended Lindros's season, he will draw some interest - at a reduced salary.
How much of it comes from the Oilers remains to be seen, but Lindros knows coach Craig MacTavish and he'd complement Nedved in the middle. That could be a factor because there's some doubt about the status of Marty Reasoner, whose 2003-04 season was ended by a broken ankle and torn-up knee.
"It'll be a another name that's in the pot of eligible guys who are out there," Lowe said. "For the right price, it might be worth some consideration.
"If there wasn't some concern about Marty and his health, we'd just focus on Nedved. If that didn't work out, we'd find or trade for somebody else."
