First of I dont give a flying **** what the Oilers did 16 years ago. Nor do I care what Calgary did in 04.
At this current time who do you belive has the better lineup Calgary or Edmonton.
Amonte-Langkow-Iginla
Simon-Reinprect-Kobasew
Nilson-Lombardi-Donovan
Wiemer-Yelle-McCarty
Regher-Leopold
Warrener-Hamerlik
Ference-Phaneuf
*Lydman
Kipprusoff
Sauve
Offense
Iginla, Langkow, Amonte, Reinprect and Kobasew are going to be called upon to put up big points for Calgary. It will be interesting to see how Iginla plays will Langkow and Amonte (likley line combo) for once Calgary has two very good shots on the wings in Iginla and Amonte. Langkow is a smaller forward but will do anything it get the puck out of the corners to his team.
Reinprect never got a chance to show what he could do last season. Most of the seasons was spent in the press box. Reinprect had sholder troubles. Kobasew is comming of a great season in the AHL and this might finally be the year he scores 20 or more goals.
Nilson, Lombo, Donovan, Simon, Wiemer, Yelle and McCarty, WILL score goals for Calgary however for most it will be around 10-15. These players have alot of heart and play hard. Yelle and McCarty are going to be a tough pair to play against both will block shots and make the big hit.
Defense
This is the strong point of Calgary. Everyone execpt Hammer is under the age of 30. This defense is only going to get better as they start to hit their prime.
Phaneuf is likley going to start for Calgary and that should be the end of Lydman who could be traded for another scoring forward. IF injury does occur Steve Montador can step in. He played lots of minues in the playoffs so he can be trusted.
Most defensemen for Calgary are stay at home type. Hammer moves the puck nicley and Phaneuf has a big time shot from the point. I dont expect many points out of this defensmen but I do expect lots of big time stops.
Goaltending
Kipper had a great year last season and a good world cup. He's got alot to prove this year for sure. He must prove he is not a flash in the pan like so many others. Only time will tell on this one but if he plays anything like he did in 04 Calgary will be in good shape. Sauve? We'll see here. Hopefully he'll be able to play 10-20 games as a backup and win most. Kipper was an unknown when he came to Calgary maybe Sauve can doing something of the like.
