    Some Oil News

Ya I know.. Its hockey talk in summer.. but I am sooo bored, I need to post something

MSG NETWORK: Stan Fischler reports Petr Nedved's new wife, model Veronica Varekova, could talk him out of re-signing with the Edmonton Oilers as she prefers the bright lights of New York. Oilers GM Kevin Lowe might then turn his attention toward former Bruins centre Michael Nylander. The club is also believed interested in Eric Lindros and Jamie Allison.

All speculation - no one has had any word with Veronika, or her agent. Like I said, all speculation.

That's so silly. Pro athletes should decide where they want to play, whether it be their hometown for which they have a nostalgic fondness, with a team where they can contend for a championship, or even more likely, the place where the money is the best.

This is exactly why it's best to wait until your career is over before settling down and getting married, unless both careers are compatible. Sometimes, this can prove to be detrimental to an athlete's career.

Screw getting washed up has-beens like Allison and Lindros.. that would be the biggest waste of money possible.. then I would seriously doubt K. Lowes abilities as a GM.
What's with all the negativity CK?

At the beginning of last season, would you not have been one to stand up and say Nedved is an overrated has-been? I bet you would have...

Allison is a great player and I didn't even think we would be in the running for him. If Lowe can get him here, he should be applauded, not doubted.

No, I don't want Lindros. I was talking only of Allison...

And I know all about Allison and who he is. I've been a fan of his since his rookie season. He'd look good in Oil Blue...

Happened to the Oil years ago... many many fans still blame Janet Jones for luring the Great one to LA.

The fault lies with Peter Pocklington on that one...

if you are worried about Allison off ice problems, you figure Brett Hull and his 745 foot mouth is better for this club

No he doesn't, did you see him in the playoffs last year? He floated and was completely uninterested in getting to the puck. Plus if you thought Adam Oates couldn't keep up to the oilers' skating, Hull would be way worse.

                            Re: Some Oil News

Well the large difference this year is it seems Lowe is actually aware that we desperately need a number one playmaking centre. Last year Marchant was leaving and it became evident very early that Comrie was out the door. He did dick all about it at the time.

Moving Smythe to centre as a desperation move that not only did not work out as far as a centre is concerned it also screwed up smitty's game the first part of the year. Then after 20 games or so there was the Oates experiment which was about as fruitful as the Dopita experiment a few years back. (I liked Oates character and experience but he did nothing offensively). Even then Lowe waited till the trade deadline to get a bit of a freeby from Sather. Lo and behold Nedved was a big help but it was too late to save the Oilers season.

If Nedved doesn't come back I favour Allison over the others. Lindros actually played well for the Rangers last year so he is a possibility as well. In anycase if we have a season we had better get a productive centre and have him him at the start of the season or we'll be out of the playoffs again.
