Let me start out by saying that the Oilers played like ****, plain and simple. and it wasn't Markannen's fault.
First off, the turnovers. Our passing was terrible, we gave way too many turnovers, it's hard enough to win this one, we are giving them more opportunities. We are letting them win, that's unacceptable.
And also, the passing is terrible on the offensive side too. Hemsky was being praised, but he's not a star, and he won't be until he can play consistently. He held on to the puck and ruined at least 2 or 3 good scoring opportunities. We started off with good passing, but it went downhill after the first period. We just need to shoot the puck more, it's not that hard.
Again on the defensive side, we aren't giving much help to Jussi Fruit. We weren't blocking shots, and we weren't trying to create turnovers. Even when we out-played them in the first period, they had more shots than us. Spacek, Smith, Pronger, and all the defensive were playing great, and that's what got us to the Finals. You gotta keep doing what got you to where you're at.
Jussi played bad, mentally. I'll accept that he wasn't game ready, but he made alot of bad mistakes. He was out of the net alot more than he should've been. More than 2 goals, he was no where in the net. On the Weight goal, he jumped on the shot and headed out of the net, the least he could've done was jump on the original shot but stay within the net, he would've had a better shot at the save.
Around the goalie, we need to get more traffic. Cam Ward is turning into a hero for them, and we are helping it. We are taking terrible shots, and we aren't getting around the goalie until the puck is already in there, and he has already made the save. Ward gives up alot of rebounds, how about putting one of those in?
At the end of the game, when it was pretty much over, we played rough, which I liked, but we did alot of stupid stuff that made it look real unclassy. We didn't even care about trying to score and shake Ward for going into Edmonton. They were frustrated and I didn't like it.
Carolina is playing how we played in previous rounds, and they are winning. They are blocking shots, they are keeping their goalie fresh, and they are creating turnovers. We need to take this series back in Edmonton.
Reffing. Before, I've heard some stuff about Bettman wanting to keep the Cup in the US, and I shook it off as stupid, silly BS. But now....the reffing was terrible. If Laraque call for tripping when he hit someone, unacceptable. Plays were iffy, but I definitly going one way tonight.
For Game 3....we have a goalie situation...I leave that decision up to MacT, but our defense can definitly do alot to support our goalie. We are proving to the world that we are nothing without Roloson, that we have no one else on this team who is worthy of winning a Cup. We need an overall team effort, and we need a hell of a crowd there to support them. Don't lose faith...keep fighting, but play smart.
