The Oilers are going to be dismantled...

according to the douche bag Al Strachan.

    http://lfpress.ca/newsstand/Sports/H...44598-sun.html

I hold no illusions that next years team will be exactly the same as this years, however the extra money in the Oiler pockets combined with the desire to win a championship should help up us re-sign may of our FA's. Any that we do not re-sign were probably not going to re up here regardless of the run.

Obviously there will be changes, but there is no way that Pronger will be traded.

WOW.. what a complete tool / douche bag.

Oilers just made a nice amount of cash. Pronger is signed for 6years? And he will not be going anywheres.

I think someone should tell Douche bag that there is the new CBA... he is still yapping like its 2003 and there is no CBA..

He's talking as if we are still under the old system. The Oilers are already paying Pronger top dollar, there is no way he will be traded.....what a dumb comment. As for dismantling teams, every team in the league will have turnover from year to year. We will lose some guys from the roster but we might just bring in better guys to replace them.

Al Strachan is the Marty York of the NHL and is not widely regarded in many circles.

This kind of article makes all of us groan and makes other newswriters embarrassed to be associated with the guy.

Actually, some of what he said is true in general. There will be more of a 'churn' of players than there were before which will allow more teams to make a run like the Oilers did in a shorter time span. Everyone has a chance now except those with stupid management. A good example would be the NFL. Now, we can see it starting to happen in the CFL. As far as trading Pronger

I'd say there are two untouchables on this team. Pronger & Smyth. Maybe Stoll...he's our future captain. No way do any of those three get traded. Strachan is a tool.

But, there is going to be some turnover. I still maintain both Samsonov and Peca are gone.

Al Shatstain has two jobs, one is NHLPA schill and the other is a Maple Leaf schill.

OK he is a total moron. Even with the salaries we have now, including what I hope will be a few of the rookies stepping up. The Oilers can look at giving Pisani, Stoll, Hemsky, Horcoff, Spacek, Samsanov all decent raises. Plus can maybe see if Peca will stay for a bit less. They can do all of this and still stay well below the cap. They can take the team they have, loose a few guys like Laraque, Ulanov, Tarnstrom, Dvorak, Conklin. And still have a great product on the ice. The core players will remain. I think under the new cap system that players may stay with teams for the same or a smaller raise if they are treated right. Teams can't just throw millions at players to attract them, because it affects thier cap room.

Al Strachan has never been the sharpest tack in the carpet and he proved it again today.

The Oilers are not hurting for cash for the time being after a good revenue run in the spring of 2006.

Pronger may actually be a bargain here because as I said before, inflationary forces are once again at work in the poorly run NHL. The new 44 million cap comes against a background of mediocre to non-existant T.V. revenue.

                    A 30 minute a game defenceman at $6 million might be low-ball.

Re: The Oilers are going to be dismantled...

The Oilers' salary was about $33 Million this year, I think.

                      You lose:

                      Laraque @ $1 Million
                      Conky @ $ 1Million
                      Ulanov @ ~$1 Million
                      Peca @ $4 Million
                      Samsonov @ ~ $3 Million
                      Tarnstrom @ ~ $1 Million

                      That's $11 Million.

You must give raises to (adding to current salary):

                      Hemsky - add $1.5 Million
                      Horcoff - add $2 Million
                      Stoll - add $1 Million
                      Torres - add $1 Million
                      Pisani - add $2 Million
                      Roloson - add $ 2 Million
                      Spacek - add $ 600k

That's $10 million and you're just about even, if not a million on the good side. If the Oilers save $? Million a year in debt servicing from ridding themselves of most of their debt, then you can add a few Million in additional salary to cover roster spots vacated by those leaving. So we're talking youth or inexpensive vets.

No, my friends, the Oilers are not going to be dismanlted. They are going to be improved. Remember, we add a kid who was scoring a stupid amount of goals in the O last year and is ready for the NHL named Schremp. And if his attitude is an issue, he's still worth a ton in a trade.

The 2006-07 Oilers will actually be better than this year's team. Will we make to the final again? Nobody can say, but I'll make this bold predicition: you're not going to worry about them being competitive.

Don't forget Dvo at $1.6 million. If he does re-sign it'll be at a significant lower salary.

I might be in a minority, but I really think another extra million thrown Pronger's way is something you'll see sooner than later. My thought is an extension in 07-08 with a raise.

All indications are that the Rangers are going to back a dumptruck full of money to Chara's front door, maybe close to $8 million. The good ol'days are not entirely dead.

Pronger is signed for another four years. There won't be anything more thrown his way.
