Flames victories will be coming fast and furious

Wow, you should have read the Calgary Sun today. Pierre Mcguire, Al Strachan, Randy Sportak, Eric Francis and at least 4 other guys all picked the Flames to finish "second or third" in the conference and one guy, Sportak, says that the Flames are going all the way. Several others mentioned that they were "as good as any team in the league" and were strong contenders for the cup.

Based on what I read today there is no point in the Flames even playing the regular season, they are already assured a playoff spot It would be best just to let them face off against another "definite repeat" club, the Ducks and then they can go on to play the Cup final against the Eastern champs. It all gets reduced to a simple 4 team tournament. Think of all the time and money that ticket holders can save. Gee, are the Flames really that good? We shall see but I think that many of the Flames had career seasons last year

I'll go out on a limb and guarantee that baring major injuries, Colorado takes the division.

    Rather easily too.

Wasn't Calgary supposed to win the division last year and dominate Detroit? Turns out they couldn't win a game on the road when their terrible forward depth got exposed.

I'd put my money on the same results this year. Their bottom 6 F's are some of the worst in the league.
"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

Not a bad call, actually. I think the Avs are going to be scary good this year.

I don't give a rat's behind about the Flames. They're irrelevant to me.

        And personally, I think they're a middle-of-the-pack hockey team.

Sportswriters are, for the most part, idiots.

They were all busting a nut for the Flames last year and they did nothing so let them continue busting nuts.

And 2 days ago in the paper , it mentioned how the Flames are Canada's least favorite team.

I hope they finish 30th overall.

I would guess more people hate the leafs than hate the Flames, but less people love the Flames than love the Leafs. If you get my drift. 20 years ago the same could be said for the Habs, but in the past 20 years they have lost that mystique and now are just another team to me.

PS I hate the Flames at least as much as I hate the Leafs.

Bah, I don't see anything out of the flamers that would make them any more than an average to below average team this year, just like every other year.

No one outside of Calgary likes the flames, but Toronto still has some fans from back in the day that havent turned to hating them yet like the rest of the country does.

Goaltending, when you have great goaltending you tend to get the benifit of the doubt from the media. The Flames will be a good team this year I bet, but they do not have the depth up front to go all the way. They are solid on the blueline, and very good in net, but as PDO says, they are much weaker than most after the top two lines. Iginla can not do it all by himself.

                      2nd or 3rd..........................................last.

Flames are going to suck this year. Turmoil will be the story in Cowgary.

At least the Flames writers have a few. All the Stamps beat writers have been nutless since Philion came into town.

speaking of goaltending ,how are they suppose to win if kennan pulls the goalie with ten minutes left in the game? calgarians should prepare for some unorthadox hockey ,i think those that think they have seen it all in calgary are about to

Yup... they just missed the playoffs by a hair and added two elite hockey players in Smyth and Hannan. The only impact on the player who could have a downswing is Sakic... and he hasn't had one yet. Stunning talent, stunning condition. All the kids (Stastny, Wolski, Liles, etc) should be getting better as well.

I'm in a money pool... Sakic is going to be a very early pick, especially with the edition of Smyth. Sakic will top 100 points, Smyth 80 and Hejduk 80 if all 3 play over 75 games. They'll be together on the PP and apart.... well, someone is going to get an easier assignment or better linemates than they are used to.
