    Indy Car Edmonton

I'm betting they just grabbed our money for next years race.

My buddy is an engineer who's firm set up all the Champ Car races, the Heritage Classic, the Salt Lake Olympics, and many other sporting events.

At this time last year they had the stands partially complete. They haven't been given the go ahead yet.

It is 99% to maybe 99.99% set. The race will happen. ESPN and TSN have listed the race on their schedules for July26 at 3pm Edm time. Cascar, and Atlantics have the race scheduled for that weekend. Jim Haskins was on theTeam1260 Friday morning and siad it was a done deal except for some tiny little things.

That is great to hear, and by the sounds of it Toronto should be coming back next year. Andretti Green is looking at buying the race.

The deadline to bring an Indy Racing League event back to Toronto has been extended by another two weeks.

Andretti Green Racing, which is interested in buying the rights to a race in Toronto, said in a press release Thursday that said the IRL team and Grand Prix Association of Toronto have agreed to extend the closing date on staging the race to May 15.

I predict the only races we will see are the CASCAR and Atlantic races. We will be told it is the price we will have to pay to get Indycar here next year.

The fact that nothing is official yet really worries me. A lot of logisitcs go into such an event and such can't be planned overnight.

I'm pretty sure they have all the logistics planned. Its a done deal its just thast they haven't come out and made some official announcement. They will probally do that after Sunday as this is 500 weekend comming up.

Today's Journal says it is delayed over legal issues involved with bankruptcy of Champ car and the takeover by Indy Car.

If the whole things go for crap wouldn't surprise me 1 bit. We are basically a smidgen more than 2 months away from the race date and no announcement. No construction on the track. The announcement of the race in Edmonton would be a pebble in the ocean compared to the 500 and has basically zero impact on the 500 but would have major effect in Etown because no matter what anyone says, ticket sales has to be hurting,

If they can get it announced before the 500 then you'll see a healthy upswing in tix sales. I think the excitement that is happening at Indy with reunification will have a great spill over effect here.

Reading the Journal article it paints a rather rosy picture.

Tsn is reporting that Edmonton and the IRL will announce a long term deal today. According to Terry Angstadt of the IRL the Edmonton race will be held this year on July 26.
