    2008 NCAA Football Thread

USC goes down in flames for a second straight time in Oregon St.

Congrats to Mike Riley (who should have been our coach instead of Kay Stephenson...grumblegrumblegrumble)

    BCS now WIDE open.
I will not, for a moment longer, support an organization who chooses to cowardly kneel where they once fiercely & proudly stood

Oklahoma is the best team out there right now IMO.

I hate to correct you, Pete, as I love the WAC...but their out-of-conference record this year looks brutal, especially vs the Pac-10.

Arizona 70 Idaho 0 (in Tucson)
Oregon 66 Utah State 24 (in Eugene)
Oregon State 45 Hawaii 7 (in Corvallis...I don't feel so bad about that one now )
Boise State 37 Oregon 32 (in Eugene)
Stanford 23 SJ State 10 (in Stanford)

Boise's the only team that's beaten anyone so far, as far as I can see. Fresno State plays UCLA this weekend.

I do agree that Boise could be going places this year, though...and they might get a push from Fresno State/Nevada as well.

Yup my bad it should have read Mountain West conference. I still think that Boise will be in the mix for a real bowl

Yah, the Toilet Bowl, which this year is being played in Flushing Meadow, NY. But they'll likely get wiped in that one, too.

Oklahoma??? The second (or third) best team in the Big 12 can't be the best team. Georgia and Florida are both better teams.

It's hard to go against the SEC, but my money is on Oklahoma this year.

                  Time to revive this thread.

                  Random thoughts:

Great Texas Oklahoma game last week vaults Texas sqaurely into the national championship game if they can take care of business the rest of the season. Thats a big if however because they play #11 Missouri, #7 Texas Tech, #16 Kansas still this year. I think it will be the Big 12 beating themselves up this year and hurting their chances for the National Championship Game more then the SEC.

                  Sleeper non BCS Teams:
Boise State still-- they are dominant but play a terrible schedule
TCU- Beat #9 BYU, Lone loss to Oklahoma (then ranked #1) and they play a much tougher schedule then Boise

Georgia vs. Florida this weekend. Should be a serious match up and I expect it to be decided by less than a touchdown.

Well the BCS can count out 2 more teams after this weekend as its extremely doubtful that Ohio State or LSU will be making the championship game after their losses.

Penn State IMHO is not as good as everyone says. They beat a team with a freshman starting at QB who as the commentators said "was throwing up moon balls". I don't think this win should mean much. ( OSU lost to USC 35-3 and yet PSU only beats OSU by a TD.) Also the Big 10 is terrible this year.

Georgia vs. Florida this week should be an awesome game. I think that Georgia's offense is too balanced to be stopped by Florida. I predict Georgia to win and keep their BCS hopes alive.

The Texas- Texas Tech game should be an offensive display. 2 QB's with Heismann hopes lead explosive offenses. If you watch one college game all year this should be it.

I think the Championship game will have Texas and an SEC team. I haven't seen Alabama yet, but Georgia looks pretty good to me. So does Florida.

Bama is a strong unit. Got to watch them twice before my new job kicked in and now working every Saturday. The SEC is a tough run though for any of those schools but Alabama has as a serious shot at the SEC championship.

If Florida can bring Tebow back next year they should become the team to beat as Georgia will have too many to replace.

The Big Ten is bad but Penn State is the conference leader I believe. Sure Pryor is a freshman playing the toughest spot on the field but he's a pretty easy pick for freshman of the year and likely would've had a serious run for freshman of the year if he suits up for the Ohio State basketball team too. Serious athlete, serious talent and one that I wish didn't go to The Ohio State so I could actually cheer for him without having to shower afterwards.

Texas TEch beats Texas. Classic game, wild and bizarre ending. I love the way that TT plays football on offense.

I was pretty surprised by Tech's defense, and by that M. Williams receiver for Texas....not just his receiving but his special teams play as well, he's a freshman...look out for him in the next few seasons.

Stupid Crabtree though....helluva player, gonna see him going in the first round in a couple years. 35 TDs in less than 2 seasons?!
