From TSN:
REPORT: PANTHERS' BOYNTON SENT HOME, WILL MISS THREE GAMES
Panthers' GM Jacques Martin says defenceman Nick Boynton has been sent home for disciplinary reasons and will be missing the last three games of the team's road trip, according to the Sun Sentinel.
Martin did not provide more detail but said he was planning on speaking with Boynton again on Monday.
Noah Welch will replace Boynton in the top six.
"I try not to focus on that because Boynton is a buddy of mine and he's a really good guy," Welch told the Sun Sentinel. "It was a shock this morning hearing the news. I have to step in and do what I can do."
The 30-year-old Boynton did not play in the third period of Thursday's 2-1 win over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
The 6'2, 210-pound Ontario native joined the Panthers in June of 2008 - along with Keith Ballard - in a trade for Olli Jokinen. Earlier this season, Boynton was benched one game.
"I was very surprised," Ballard said of discplinarian action taken on his roommate Boynton. "For me, I'm real close with him, so it's tough. I don't want to get into too much with it. But it's tough for him. It's tough for all of us."
