Former Edmonton Oilers coach lands job with Dallas Stars

EDMONTON — Charlie Huddy has officially been hired as assistant coach with the Dallas Stars, in charge of the club’s defence.
The former assistant with the Edmonton Oilers was released after nine years but was scooped up by new Dallas head coach Marc Crawford.
Huddy, who had one year remaining on his contract with the Oilers, signed a two-year deal with a club option for a third with Dallas. It’s not known what arrangements the two clubs made regarding Huddy’s salary with the Oilers.
“I still had the itch to coach and I’m glad Marc called... the situation there is a lot like here. They’ve got some young defencemen too (Nicklas Grossman, Matt Niskanen and Edmonton native Mark Fistric),” said Huddy. “Here we had Gibby (Tom Gilbert), Denis (Grebeshkov), Ladi (Smid) and Matt Greene before he went to LA.”
Huddy confirmed he also had interest from Tampa Bay.
