    US Bans NHL Charter Flights

Canada's six NHLteams are scrambling to find alternative travel arrangements south of the border after the U.S. Department of Transportation banned Air Canada's charter fleet from flying between U.S. cities.

In a furious exchange with the Obama administration over the mid-August ruling, Canada has launched its own investigation and will soon close its skies to U.S. sports team charters in retaliation, warns Transport Minister John Baird.

The sticking point is an eight-year-old exemption that had allowed sports and celebrity charters to make several pit stops in American cities. Under existing open skies agreements, regular Canadian airline flights can only visit one U.S. city before returning.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly warns the charter ban will create a complicated "patchwork" of travel that could "wreck havoc" with the oncoming hockey schedule, including early league games in Europe, as teams scramble to book flights under the new rules.

"It's potentially a very significant impact," Daly said Friday. "It's crazy and very destabilizing to our business. We're operating on a long-standing interpretation and for it to change overnight on the eve of our season is creating a huge problem for us."

    ...why?

That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

Odd... but at least it sounds like they could still get a US based charter when down there.

Definitely a major pain coming with such short notice though.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

Yup... and even tougher for the Raptors and Blue Jays.

      Seems completely unnecessary.

Katz Cash should buy a plane...

Yeah, it's probably a protectionist move and you'd assume it's just for commercial charters, so private planes would probably be alright (though, admittedly, I have no clue about such things)... but I'd assume that would be prohibitively expensive if most were going the charter route.

It would seem the US Air Line Pilots Association is behind this.

A lot of money to be had in charter flights. This isn't that surprising considering the state of airlines in the US.

What a bunch of 'tards. I mean, injured players might have to stay behind for injury treatment @ one city and rendevouz with the team in another? Team owners might have other business in other cities and not be able to travel 100% of the time with the team? Personal trainers obviously have no need whatsoever to stay behind with the injured players....right? I mean, imagine that sometimes in pro sports there is a slight deviation from the initial travel plan.....heaven forbid......
