    Roethlisberger gets 6 games....

    http://www.tsn.ca/nfl/story/?id=318885

"This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. And the fact is, we gotta go back and go to work, to make sure we finish this next time. That's all we gotta do. This right here makes us stronger. Let's understand who we are as a team. Let's understand this right here makes us stronger." - Ray Lewis, January, 2012.

So what did Big Ben admit to? I can't seem to find it anywhere except where he says he is sorry for his behaviour.

I suppose his realization and admission that he acted like an ass is a good move. But legally, I think he could have fought this, especially since no charges went forward. I'm guessing there is some pretty damning evidence that he doesn't want brought to light so he is figuratively playing ball with the NFL.

Girl says no, Ben says yes, bodyguard forces girl into bathroom with Ben...???.....Ben gets off without charges because someone cleaned the bathroom before it could be examined, NFL suspends Ben.

He also has a history of this type of stuff. Violence against women, showing up at college parties, etc. If this were his first interaction with the law, he might not have gotten 6 games.

The fact he has been accused of this before tells me the guy is a Grade A douche. He probably thinks since he's an NFL star he can get whatever he wants and any girl out there will want to be with him. Doesn't work that way Ben!

Good on Goodell for suspending him. Maybe now he'll get his crap together.

He's a POS. I'm sure the NFL would love to have suspended him forever.

            Doubt it.

I find it hard to believe it's just a coincidence that the Steelers have 5 prime time games.... none of which take place in the first 6 games.

Meaning they have 5 of their last 10 games in prime time when Jenny comes back to play. They laid down the suspension because they had to, but relaly, they just want him to learn when to keep it in his pants so they can continue to make money off of him.

Depends on what the NFL code of conduct policy states, the negative press against an NFL player and thus the NFL may be enough to warrant suspension.

Sounds like the NFL Code of Conduct policy is pretty harsh when, even though you aren't charged with anything, the league still suspends you.

That's good though because these guys think they can get away with all this crap but in reality, it'd be like my employer suspending me for doing something detrimental in the community or to the company. These guys should never be above the law and they should know that.

My point is you can't be punished for something you didn't do. That isn't above the law - that IS the law.

Let's say go go to the bar and meet up with your ex. She tries to reconcile but you shun her advances. The next day the girl is telling everyone you raped her. Your boss finds out about the charges. So do your customers. It looks really bad on you.

Do you think your boss can legally suspend you without pay?
Even if the police investigate and no charges are laid?

Dude, I'd be livid. I'd take my boss to court if he suspended me after a false accusation. And the girl would be sued too.

In the end, BB is accepting the punishment because he did something wrong. He hasn't said what but he knows he did something wrong.

It's not as if it's just one women making a claim. Her friends and other people there backed up the story. They didn't have enough evidence that they'd be sure to have an open and shut case. In that case with a famous person, they won't press charges, because charges alone can kill their career. The NFL is justified in suspending him.

It doesn't matter how many are backing up the claim. What makes the difference is that Ben is rolling over and taking what the NFL is handing out. That is admitting guilt.

What I find offensive is the "morality police". McNabb's Chunky Soup commercials and Romo dating Chicken of the Sea could be considered hurting the reputation of the NFL by some.

My understanding is the Ben admitted to 'plying' an underage girl (20yrs old) with alcohol. The girl said the sex was non-consensual. I'm guessing he's either denying the sex occurred or else saying that it was consensual.
I think the NFL is suspending him for the first part of this.

And PDO, if the NFL wanted to let Ben off lightly they would have not suspended him or else given him a lighter sentence. Alot of pundits (including Peter King, who even though I don't always like him, seems to be very well connected in the NFL) figured that a 4-game suspension would be the maximum he'd get.

I figured a 4-game as well. It seems to be the norm for these types of things. Maybe Goodell wants to step it up a notch, start making examples of big-name players. After all, he built his name in his first few years on cleaning up the league, and now it's slipping back to how it was. What's his legacy if he leaves the league the way he got it? (in regard to player discipline)

Worth mentioning that the article states if he has "good behaviour" it drops to 4 games...

What the hell does that even mean? Don't rape anybody for a month and it drops to 4?

I'm not saying they let him off lightly... just that they know he's a meal ticket for one of the most popular franchises in the league. The NFL is getting it's cake and eating too; they get to come down tough on a star to send a message, but he's still available to the Steelers for all of their prime time games.
