Re: And you think the CFL officials are bad!
Just as bad to me is the "fumble" in OT that gave the Ravens the win over the Bills. The ball carrier was clearly held and his forward progress stopped when Ray Lewis pulled the ball out of his hands. Just a terrible non-call by the officials; and I have no idea why it wasn't/couldn't be reviewed. There's no way that play was still live when the ball was pulled loose. These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Re: And you think the CFL officials are bad!
I am only going to defend the refs on this a little as I have not watched the whole play, just replays. The ruling on the field was touchdown, so there is no reason for the officials to go into the pile to see who recovered the fumble. Now if the officials did go in to see who had it, (on the off chance that it was ruled a fumble) then the ref should have went to the other officials on the field and asked who had the ball once the play was ruled a fumble. If the refs did not go into the pile then, I am guessing in the future they will just for this reason."Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

I agree. But because I had Baltimore in our NFL survivor pool @ work, I was quite glad to see that result. I'm hoping most of those left had New Orleans...Originally posted by earl2 View PostJust as bad to me is the "fumble" in OT that gave the Ravens the win over the Bills. Re: And you think the CFL officials are bad!
Weird play... he had stopped moving for a good second, and then several Bills O-line men came in and moved the pile forward about 3-4 yards. At which point Ray ripped it out.Originally posted by earl2 View PostJust as bad to me is the "fumble" in OT that gave the Ravens the win over the Bills. ... I was busy yelling at the officials for NOT calling forward progress because it sure looked like he was stopped, and then the pile got shoved forward after the whistle should have gone.
Don't think you can challenge forward progress though? It's subjective.
Just the football gods evening out the "roughing the passer" on Suggs earlier in the year..."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. We fought as a team. Re: And you think the CFL officials are bad!
The real difference between two plays is this though...
The ref who made the call in the Pittsburgh game?
Born, raised, and has business interests in Pittsburgh. He made a DIRECT call that CLEARLY benefit the Steelers.
The Ravens game? If not for Lewis making an all-world play... it's a HUGE advantage for the Bills.
The refs got it wrong both times. But one of them was a down the middle call that took the 2% chance of going against the offense. The other was a clear-as-****ing-day mistake that was reviewed and still somehow not overturned.
... and it was game over for the Dolphins baring an extra point attempt, while it would have been a huge hole for the Bills after the misconduct penalty...Last edited by PDO; 10-26-2010, 12:58 AM."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. There's a photo that shows a Dolphin laying on the ball in the endzone but at the same time a Steeler (might be Roethlisberger) has his arms wrapped solidly around the ball. While we are 98% sure the ball was recovered by the Dolphins, we're not 100%. And either were the officials. The rule says that if it's not conclusive the ball goes to the offence on the 1 yard line. It's a crappy break for the Fish, but it was the right call.
As for the Ravens, I wanted them to win (I've always hated the Bills-even when they're 0-5). But the ball carrier was held. Hell, he was lifted off the ground. He was being pushed backwards. He was making no effort to even fall forwards (he couldn't do anything with his feet off the ground). Lewis stripped the ball of a guy was clearly held. The whistle should have blown. I don't know if that's a reviewable play or not, but if it is, the Bills coaching staff should be tarred and feathered for not throwing a flag on that one.
The first was a bad break. The second was a bad call. These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Re: And you think the CFL officials are bad!
Only the booth could have reviewed it... no challenges in OT.
But he's clearly falling forward (from the Bills pushing him) when Lewis rips the ball out. Doesn't mean his forward progress wasn't stopped (he was picked up, whistle should have blown then)... but he was about to get 3-4 extra yards because of the late whistle.
Trust me, I was screaming at the TV too loud.
We're not disagreeing they got it wrong... they did. He was stopped. If Lewis doesn't make the 1 in a million play, the Bills get an extra 3 or 4 yards because of the late whistle."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. We fought as a team. Re: And you think the CFL officials are bad!
My question is: why didn't the league review that play. To me, as soon as it happened it looked wrong; for a league that is so ridiculously intent on getting everything right, why wouldn't they make the effort on a play that's clearly that close, and clearly a game changing play.Originally posted by PDO View PostOnly the booth could have reviewed it... no challenges in OT.

Another bad call last week, btw, was the officials overturning Visanthe Shianco's TD against the Pack. Terrible call to overturn it. And according to Brad Childress, the league admitted to him after the game that they got it wrong...These pretzels are making me thirsty.

They scored a TD anyway though, didn't they? Or did I mix that up with the hilarious "we're going to get him out at the 1!" wasted challenge where Peterson scored on the next play anyway. ****, I'll never understand why coaches waste those unless it's VERY late in the game and the difference between a TD or not is massive... 99% of the time, EVEN if you get the challenge right, they're scoring anyway. Save the challenge for a game changing play.
Past that, I truly think forward progress can't be reviewed for the same reason PI's and unnecessary roughness can't... it's subjective.Last edited by PDO; 10-28-2010, 09:06 PM."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. I'm admittedly extremely biased here... but... there you go. I don't see how that can't be ruled Miami ball.Last edited by PDO; 10-30-2010, 01:41 AM."This year, we did what we were supposed to do. Re: And you think the CFL officials are bad!
CFL might have pulled ahead in this argument.
The delay of game call the Bombers got at the end of this last game was due to the confusion caused by calling the sack on Elliot a OUT OF BOUNDS play.. causing the clock to stop.
When is a sack an out of bounds play? o.O
