    Thrashers to Winnipeg is a done deal!

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=5...d-rr-headlines

    According to the Globe and Mail. Twitter is blowing up with this news as well. Figures Winnipeg would get an NHL team back the day before the Apocalypse.

    Fantastic news for Winnipeg and for hockey in Canada in general.

      Not 100% yet, but it pretty much looks like a done deal.

      Sources tell TSN that a reported agreement to move the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg has not yet been reached and that talks are continuing.

        Also not true. Though everyone is saying a deal will likely come in a few days, Bettman and True North owners have denied it already happening to just about every news outlet possible. Globe got this wrong.

          Just a matter of dotting the I's and crossing the T's, to get this "official". I am sure the relocation fee is already paid.

            Details are pretty much what we've heard. While I'm starting to believe it will happen, details like advanced sale of season tickets have been termed as necessary for a long time. I'm pretty sure there is no 'yes' before that, and no fees paid before a 'yes'. I'm also not confident the team will work here, but things have changed since the NHL was last in town (Re: salary Cap, dollar strength). Been to a few too many Bomber games to not know that most sports fans in this city are young, bandwagon jumpers there to drink beer, though.....

              Nick Kypreos also claiming that Brunt was right and the deal is done. It may well be that it is done, but the True North guys have learned well enough from Balsillie's attempts to work through the proper channels and not go off-side with Bettman. He'll tell them when it's clear to annouce or not, and no one seems to be disputing that an announcement is expected on Tuesday.

                  This thread is like 12 hrs too late...Twitter was blowing up with this last night and TSN was quick to clamp down saying it's not done yet. Brunt of the Globe & Mail is the ONLY one saying this is done...

                    Again, won't believe it until the puck drops

                      If that happens, it'll be real interesting to see how realignment plays out.
                      Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

                            I figure it would be something like:

                            NSH -> SE
                            MIN -> CEN
                            WPG -> NW

                            I think that makes the most sense geographically.

                            Not to mention, Nashville from Atlanta isn't all that bad of a drive IIRC - 400km on interstates. Maybe rig the schedule a bit so that ATL fans can make a weekend trip or two in a year to see hockey against the teams that were their rivals...a Fri night-Sun matinee weekend, or maybe even 3 games during their Thanksgiving or something.

                              I agree with you but there is no way Nashville gets to move to the East while Detroit stays in the West. Just not going to happen.
