I guess my 13, 987 votes made a difference! WTG Steve Nash!

Nash is good, but I am of the mind that an in-shape Shaq makes any team he is playing on an instant contender to win it all as he changes the whole complexion of the game in terms of how you approach his team from a defensive stand point....

Besides- who do you think would win between Nash and Shaq in a game of one on one??

      Thought so..

I agree - Shaq would easily beat Nash at one-on-one. Steve Nash, to me anyways, is more of a play maker...he makes the most amazing passes and his ability to read defenses. To me that is what he brings to the game that puts him above and beyond...

I agree nash would get destroyed by Shaq but its not a fair comparision. Shaq is a center at over 7'0. Thats like saying who would win in a race... an OL or a WR. the thing with nash is he makes every single player around him better. basketball is a team gave so a one on one would not due justice. i think its very tuff to call on who should be mvp between the two but miami wins with shaq injured and Phoneix loses every game when nash is out with an injury. Shaq still argubaly the most dominant player in the league but in my opinion I think Nash should win. But again thats just my opinion.

            Exactly.

Steve reads the game in a Gretzky-like way (though not quite to that extent)...he passes to the open space where a teammate is going to be.

Steve is MVP, IMO. Without Shaq, Miami still has Dwyane Wade and the Joneses, as well as 'Zo who is still a good inside presence......without Nash, PHX has no one else that runs the floor or passes the ball like he does. Guys like Q, Amare, and Marion have to get the ball from Steve in order to fill their role of 3-pt shooter, inside guy, and jack-of-all-trades respectively. 'Zo can play post for Miami, and I think the Heat would still win.

Good points on Nash's value to the Suns, but i have to respectfully disagree with you concerning Zo.. Zo is way past his prime and is a stopgap player only... Don't forget that the Suns have the best young center in the game today in Amare Stoudamire.. Shawn Marion is an Allstar at Power forward.. Also Joe Johnson is one of the best three shooting guards in the game.. Nash isn't doing it all by himself..

IMO With the exception of Heat SG Dwayne Wade, Nash's supporting cast to a man is much better than the one surrounding Shaq..

Nash's backup Leandro Barbosa is a pretty decent young point guard as well.

I suppose Zo couldn't play the minutes of Shaq, but he looked like he was doing pretty well when I watched the Miami game the other night. I agree with that though, Zo is not a starter anymore. But the Heat don't lose too much of a step with him in there.

You're right that the Suns have a great lineup ...but the ball goes through Steve, nearly every possession he's on the floor. His distribution is good...I haven't heard anything from anyone saying they aren't getting enough touches. Barbosa is doing well under his tutelage.

And Wade can distribute the ball when Shaq is covered (e.g. Miami won 114-98 the other night with Shaq only scoring 17 or so)...but the ball goes through Steve with PHX (he only scored 11 against Memphis, but had 13 dishes, and Amare only had 9 but Marion and Q both had over 20).

Niether of these guys have really been putting on a show in the playoffs, depite the successes of thier respective teams. Both franchises are proving that they don't actually rely upon thier MVPs for wins. Parity has undeniably reached the NBA! Now we make up our minds if this is good or bad.

Parity is good, IMO. Better for the league when all teams have a decent shot at the playoffs or more, and when teams can sign (or lose) a couple guys and can make a 20 or 30 game turnaround from season to season (e.g. PHX and the Lakers ).

As good as Nash is offensively.... he's a liability on defense, and Shaq is a force everywhere.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.
