Man, was it a crappy day today
...but the right team won
.
It was a pretty good game, considering the conditions. Bears played well...Winkel had 19-151, Salmon was 17/28-236 and a TD. Filkowski was 3/3 on FG's, all in the 4th quarter.
Bears opened up with a safety, then Salmon hit Jason Moss for a 65-yd TD. Manitoba got a safety and a FG in the 2nd q before Bears finally finished a late drive that Salmon ran in from 10 yds for a 15-5 lead at half. Manitoba got another safety in the 3rd, then Beau hit all his FG's in the 4th before the Bisons finally got a TD with 2:30 left.
Was impressed with Filkowski
he was solid. Also that Manitoba (the highest-scoring team in the conference) only had 3 offensive pts in the first 57:30.
The Bears' short-yardage team (especially in the red zone) needs some work though
...I think they were only about 2 of 4 on 3rd-and-1's today. Though, I heard on the way home that Bears' starting centre got hurt in the 3rd, so that would've caused some problems.
Anyways, good win
.
Next up is the game of the regular season - Bears @ Saskatchewan. Both teams are 4-0. Bears have won their last 2 games in Saskatoon.
The TEAM will carry it with Stauffer and Dermott on the mike.
In other U of A action, the puck Bears beat Calgary 4-2 tonight at Clare Drake as well.
They lost 3-1 to Saskatchewan last night, though.
They travel to Minnesota next weekend for a 3-game exhibition tour vs. Minnesota, Minnesota State, and St. Cloud.
